Job Title: Industrial Maintenance Technician
Job Description
This role supports a large manufacturing facility in Des Moines by maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and improving production equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations. You will work throughout the facility performing preventive maintenance, equipment repairs, installations, and reliability improvements on a wide range of industrial systems.
Responsibilities
Install, maintain, and repair industrial machinery and production equipment across the plant.
Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems to quickly identify root causes of equipment issues.
Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on plant equipment to reduce unplanned downtime and extend asset life.
Repair and maintain mechanical drive systems including gearboxes, chains, bearings, sprockets, belts, and couplings.
Install, maintain, and repair conveyors and material handling systems to support production flow.
Diagnose equipment problems and perform timely repairs to minimize impact on production schedules.
Safely operate hoists, forklifts, hand tools, and power tools in accordance with facility safety policies.
Perform fabrication, welding, and equipment modifications as needed to improve reliability and performance.
Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and maintenance documentation to plan and execute work effectively.
Complete scheduled maintenance activities and accurately document work performed.
Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on equipment reliability, safety, and efficiency.
Follow all safety policies and procedures while maintaining a clean, organized work environment.
Participate in plant shutdowns approximately twice per year, working extended shifts to clean and service equipment.
Rotate on-call responsibilities once fully trained and comfortable working independently to support after-hours maintenance needs.
Essential Skills
Previous industrial maintenance experience, or related mechanical experience that translates well to a manufacturing environment.
Strong mechanical aptitude with hands-on experience in maintenance and repair of industrial equipment.
Ability to troubleshoot and repair pumps, motors, conveyors, and other production machinery.
Experience working with hydraulics and pneumatics in an industrial setting.
Ability to perform preventive and predictive maintenance on plant equipment.
Competence in reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and technical documentation.
Experience with welding and basic fabrication for equipment repair and modification.
Understanding of three-phase power and 3-phase motors.
Ability to use hand tools, power tools, hoists, and forklifts safely and effectively.
Strong commitment to following safety procedures and maintaining a safe work environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience in industrial maintenance technician roles, millwright-style maintenance, or similar mechanical trades.
Experience with mechanical drive components such as gearboxes, chains, bearings, sprockets, belts, and couplings.
Familiarity with conveyors and material handling systems in a manufacturing environment.
Ability to interpret and work from electrical and mechanical schematics.
Interest in expanding skills in electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
Comfort working at various heights, outdoors in all weather conditions, and on your feet for extended periods.
Team-oriented mindset with the ability to collaborate with a group of maintenance technicians.
Willingness to participate in scheduled plant shutdowns and occasional on-call rotation once trained.

Work Environment
This position is based in a large industrial plant where you will work as part of a maintenance team performing both preventive and repair maintenance throughout the facility. The environment includes working outdoors in all weather conditions, walking and standing for extended periods, and working at various height levels. The team typically consists of about 8 maintenance technicians, with plans to grow to approximately 10-12, fostering a collaborative atmosphere. Safety is treated as a top priority, with established policies and procedures guiding daily work. The standard schedule is first shift, Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. After you are comfortable and fully trained, you will participate in an on-call rotation to support maintenance needs outside regular hours. Twice a year, the plant conducts scheduled shutdowns during which the maintenance team works 12-hour days for about a week to thoroughly clean and service equipment. Typical attire includes jeans and a sleeved T-shirt; shorts and sleeveless shirts are not permitted. Required personal protective equipment includes hard hats, eyewear, ear protection, gloves, and steel-toe footwear, which you are expected to provide for yourself.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $30.00/hr.
