Job Summary and Qualifications
The Lead Technologist is responsible for assisting with technical and scientific oversight of the department. Is also responsible for both performing tests and day-to-day supervision of the laboratory operations in the absence of the Lab Supervisor or Manager.
He/She will assist staff to develop their potential and comply with Gulf Coast Division Standards of Behavior. He/She will assure the quality and timeliness of the testing.
What You Will Do In This Role:
The Lead Technologist's responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: 1. Provide day-to-day supervision of testing personnel in the absence of the Department Supervisor or Manager. 2. Assure the workflow provides results of stats and priority tests within prescribed times. 3. Ensure that reports are accurate, legible and within the acceptable criteria and reported appropriately for abnormal and critical values. 4. Evaluate technical problems and report to the Departmental Supervisor or Manager. Assure that all remedial actions are taken whenever the test systems deviate from the department's established performance specifications. 5. Ensure that patient test results are not reported until all corrective actions from out-of-control Quality Control or improperly functioning instruments have been taken and the test system is properly functioning 6. Assist with interviews for prospective new employees. 7. Ensure there is appropriate orientation for all testing personnel and medical technology students. 8. Assist in evaluating the competency of all testing personnel and assure the staff maintains their competency to perform testing and report results accurately and promptly. 9. Maintain professional interactions with staff, peers, supervisors and other hospital personnel. Actively model the Power of One Gulf Coast Division Standards of Behavior. 10. Assist in evaluating equipment and procedures. Review and revise procedures and maintenance protocols as needed. 11. Assist in managing supply inventory. 12. Assist to assure compliance with proficiency testing and other regulatory standards. (JCAHO, CAP, CLIA, AABB). 13. Assure employees follow safety standards and practices 14. Provide daily feedback to staff concerning their job performance. 15. Provide documentation to assist the Supervisor or Manager when they meet with each staff member semi-annually. 16. Assist with scheduling staff including shortages as needed. INTERACTION WITH OTHER DEPARTMENTS Communicates with hospital personnel, administration, other departments and supervisors.
What Qualifications You Will Need:
Experience: Two years' recent experience in the department for which they are working.
Education: Bachelor's degree in medical technology.
Special Qualifications: MT-MLS certification. Must be detail oriented and able to operate mechanical, electrical and computer-controlled instrumentation. Must possess good communication skills and be able to supervise Technologists and other staff.
