This Mechanical Engineer role focuses on researching, planning, analyzing, designing, and developing complex mechanical products such as ammunition handling systems, structures, gun systems, missile launchers, mechanisms, and related devices. The engineer performs technical analysis, testing, and evaluation of moderately complex engineering problems using specialized equipment and computer programs, ensuring that designs comply with applicable engineering standards, military specifications, and product requirements. The position also involves developing and revising technical documentation, contributing to technical papers and presentations, and occasionally delivering technical presentations to internal and external stakeholders.
Responsibilities
Apply advanced knowledge of mechanical engineering and scientific principles to develop innovative solutions to complex technical problems in areas such as ammunition handling systems, structures, gun systems, missile launchers, and mechanical mechanisms.
Provide technical leadership, consultation, and guidance to specialized engineering groups and other technical personnel, supporting cross-functional collaboration and project success.
Conceptualize, create, and analyze mechanical designs to ensure that engineering projects meet technical, cost, quality, and performance requirements.
Perform technical analysis, testing, calculations, and evaluation of results using specialized equipment and by creating computer programs, models, or simulations to solve complex engineering problems.
Analyze and interpret design specifications, drawings, documents, models, and test results to verify that technical designs comply with relevant engineering standards, military specifications, and product requirements.
Develop, write, and revise technical documentation, including design reports and supporting materials, and provide input to technical papers or presentations.
Research, prepare, and present technical presentations to customers and the technical community to enhance the organization's reputation and demonstrate engineering capabilities.
Initiate and maintain external contacts with key experts and officials at other companies, national laboratories, academic institutions, and government agencies to support technical collaboration and knowledge sharing.
Prepare, present, and defend project technical results and recommendations to customers, and participate in formal technical reviews to ensure quality and alignment with requirements.
Prepare technical and cost portions of proposals related to the mechanical engineering discipline and area of expertise.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant mechanical engineering disciplines, industry practices, trends, and applications, and advise senior leadership on new developments and potential programs.
Direct and mentor less senior technical personnel as needed, supporting their development and contributing to effective project execution.
Maintain a safe work environment and ensure compliance with safety objectives, policies, and procedures.
Share responsibility for professional self-development, working with the immediate supervisor to identify and pursue growth opportunities.
Essential Skills
Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering (BS in ME).
Minimum of 3+ years of experience using CAD modeling tools to create complex solid models, with strong proficiency in PTC Pro/E Wildfire and CREO.
Minimum of 3+ years of concept and preliminary mechanical design experience.
Hands-on experience with mechanical design and structural design, including sheet metal components and large structures.
Proficiency with Pro-E and CREO for mechanical and structural design, including large assembly design and modeling.
Ability to interpret and apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles in mechanical designs.
Strong mechanical engineering fundamentals, including analysis of structures, mechanisms, and complex mechanical systems.
Ability to perform technical analysis, calculations, and evaluation of test results using specialized tools and computer programs.
Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear technical documentation and deliver technical presentations.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a team player in a multidisciplinary engineering environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience in large structures and large assembly design and modeling, preferably within military or Department of Defense (DoD) applications.
Familiarity with industry and military standards and specifications relevant to mechanical systems and defense-related products.
Experience preparing technical and cost portions of engineering proposals.
Background in collaborating with external organizations such as national laboratories, academic institutions, or government agencies.
Ability to provide technical leadership and mentorship to less senior engineers and technical staff.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail when managing multiple design tasks and documentation requirements.
Interest in continuous learning and staying current with emerging mechanical engineering technologies, tools, and industry trends.
Work Environment
The Mechanical Engineer works closely with other designers, drafters, and engineers in a professional office setting that supports collaboration and cross-functional communication. The role requires regular interaction with various internal groups to coordinate design activities, share technical information, and align on project objectives. Orientation takes place in the office, after which the position transitions to a hybrid work arrangement, with an expectation to be onsite for 40 hours over a two-week period. The environment emphasizes safety, adherence to engineering standards, and a culture of teamwork, technical excellence, and ongoing professional development.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $55.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
