Job Description:
The Senior Electrical Engineer will serve as an experienced owner-side technical resource responsible for reviewing, evaluating, and supporting complex electrical power systems for utility, industrial, and Client-related facilities.
This role will focus on power system architecture, medium-voltage distribution, electrical reliability, emergency power systems, construction support, commissioning, and compliance with applicable electrical codes and standards.
The ideal candidate will be able to assess vendor designs, review technical studies, evaluate system reliability, and support cross-functional coordination throughout design, construction, and startup activities.
Responsibilities:
Review and evaluate utility interconnection designs, substation design, medium-voltage switchgear (13.8 KV,4.16 KV), 480 V motor control centers, transformer sizing, one-line diagrams, power distribution redundancy, and black-start/emergency power strategies.
Review electrical power system studies, including load flow, short-circuit, motor starting, voltage drop, arc flash, protection coordination, and harmonic studies.
Provide technical review of medium-voltage equipment, including metal-clad switchgear, vacuum circuit breakers, protective relays, bus differential protection, ground fault protection, generator protection, transformer protection, and MV cable systems.
Evaluate relay settings and coordination philosophy developed by vendors or engineering partners.
Support large motor application reviews, including induction motors, variable frequency drives, soft starts, motor protection, and torsional considerations.
Review hClientardous area electrical design requirements, including area classification drawings, equipment listings and certifications, installation methods in hClientardous locations, and purged or pressurized enclosures.
Provide technical oversight for emergency power systems, including standby generators, black-start philosophy, UPS systems, battery systems, critical load segregation, Emergency Shutdown System power requirements, and fire and gas detection system reliability.
Support electrical reliability engineering activities, including N-1 analysis, reliability block diagrams, availability analysis, critical equipment assessment, and maintenance strategy development.
Review electrical construction activities and installation practices related to cable tray, underground duct banks, grounding grids, cable installation, conduit installation, cable testing, switchgear installation, and MCC installation.
Support commissioning and startup activities, including Factory Acceptance Testing, Site Acceptance Testing, relay testing, transformer testing, Megger testing, hi-pot testing, generator load testing, and functional testing.
Coordinate electrical scope and technical interfaces across instrumentation, process, mechanical, rotating equipment, civil, and utility provider teams.
Ensure designs and reviews align with applicable electrical codes, industry standards, Client regulations, utility interconnection requirements, protective relay requirements, metering requirements, and power quality criteria.
