Job Title: Aircraft Mechanic / Field Service Engineer - Drone Systems
Job Description
This contract role focuses on field service engineering and aircraft maintenance for an advanced unmanned aerial system supporting ultra-fast drone delivery operations. You will perform deep, system-level investigations on Prime Air drone platforms at commercial sites, troubleshoot issues, and implement solutions that safely return drones to service. You will also help launch new drone delivery locations by provisioning site equipment, programming and executing check flights, and verifying nominal performance before operations begin. Working closely with engineering teams and drone operators, you will use data-driven insights to improve system reliability, performance, and maintainability.
Responsibilities
Perform daily system-level investigations on unmanned aerial systems to diagnose and resolve technical issues affecting drone reliability and performance.
Troubleshoot aircraft and drone system problems observed during operations and rapidly implement safe, effective repairs to return drones to service.
Support new drone delivery site launches by provisioning remote devices and site equipment, programming check flights, and conducting preflight and test flights.
Verify nominal performance of drones and associated systems before commercial operations begin at new sites.
Work through technical support tickets related to drone flight issues, system anomalies, and operational disruptions, ensuring timely and accurate resolution.
Collaborate closely with design engineering and service engineering teams to communicate operator and maintainer feedback and recommend design improvements or mitigations.
Translate complex mechanical, electrical, and software system behaviors into clear, concise technical documentation and summaries for stakeholders at all levels.
Use data-driven analysis to identify reliability trends and opportunities for system improvement, and participate in implementing corrective actions.
Sustain high technical reliability across drone operations by serving as a core member of the Product Support Organization engineering team.
Travel between operational sites (including CLE2, CLE3, and CMH1) to provide on-site technical support, participate in site launch activities, and ensure readiness for launch day.
Participate in site launch preflight activities and test flights to confirm proper system configuration and operational safety.
Follow standard work processes to manage technical tickets during regular workdays while remaining flexible to varying schedules.
Maintain accurate records of maintenance actions, troubleshooting steps, test results, and configuration changes to support traceability and continuous improvement.
Communicate effectively with cross-functional teams, including operations, field service, and engineering disciplines, to align on root causes and solutions.
Why Work Here?
This opportunity offers the chance to work on cutting-edge drone delivery technology in a dynamic, startup-style environment where innovation and continuous improvement are highly valued. All travel expenses are covered, allowing you to focus on delivering exceptional technical support without worrying about logistics.
