Joining the Minnesota Department of Corrections (DOC) as a Plant Maintenance Engineer at the Minnesota Correctional Facility (MCF) - Shakopee offers a stable career focused on improving the well-being of all Minnesota as while maintaining critical infrastructure.

Primary Responsibilities include:

Perform skilled repairs on HVAC, power equipment, refrigeration, and food service systems.

Manage the energy management system and execute quarterly preventive maintenance tasks.

Maintain precise unit logs and mechanical room records for all assigned buildings.

Assist subcontractors and other trades as needed; adapt to and learn new facility systems.

Minimum Qualifications

To be qualified for and considered for this position, applicants must meet all of the minimum qualifications listed below. Current licensure in Minnesota as a First Class C Boiler Operator or higher.

Applicants with current licensure in Minnesota as a Second Class C Boiler Operator may be considered for a provisional appointment until obtaining licensure as a First Class C Boiler Operator

Physical Requirements

The completion of pre-placement physical components may be required for this position. These components may consist of a tuberculosis screening, commercial driver's license (CDL) drug test, and/or respirator clearance. Additional Requirements

The selection process may include screening the top candidate(s) on their criminal history, predatory offender registration, offender associations and/or other applicable background information in accordance with Department of Corrections' policy. Top candidate(s) must pass a criminal history check which includes successful completion of all sentencing and/or restitution requirements of law enforcement jurisdictions, including probation.

Employment history/reference checks, including incidents of sexual harassment, will also be conducted on the top candidate(s) in accordance with Department of Corrections' policy. This may include a review of job performance and discipline records.

New employees will be fingerprinted within the first 30 days of employment.
