Job Description
The 2nd Shift CNC Machinist will set up, adjust, and operate a variety of CNC machines to produce precision components in a clean, climate-controlled job shop environment. This role focuses on Mazak CNC equipment using Mazatrol language and requires strong blueprint reading skills, precision measurement capabilities, and the ability to perform CNC setups and program edits. The position follows a 4-day work week on 2nd shift (Monday through Thursday, 3:00 p.m. to 1:30 a.m.) and involves working from detailed layouts, job packets, and blueprints that include geometric tolerancing to ensure high-quality, accurate parts.
Responsibilities
Set up, adjust, and operate a variety of CNC machines within the department to produce precision parts according to specifications.
Work with Mazak CNC machines using Mazatrol language to run, adjust, and optimize machining operations.
Read and interpret layouts, job packets, and blueprints, including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, to understand part requirements and machining processes.
Follow established setup procedures and recommend improvements to enhance efficiency, quality, and safety.
Perform necessary side operations during machine cycle time, such as deburring, cleaning, or secondary processing, as required.
Use micrometers, calipers, gauges, and CMM equipment to verify dimensions, tolerances, and overall quality of parts produced.
Accurately log inspection findings, production data, and inventory counts to maintain reliable records and traceability.
Adjust tooling and replace tools as necessary to maintain proper cutting conditions and part quality.
Read and understand CNC programs and operational layouts to verify correct machining sequences and make program edits when needed.
Determine and apply appropriate tooling requirements for machine setups, including pre-setting tools for efficient changeovers.
Support continuous improvement by monitoring machining performance and suggesting process, tooling, or program enhancements.
Essential Skills
At least 5+ years of experience operating CNC machinery in a production or job shop environment.
Proven experience with precision measuring in a job shop setting, including the use of micrometers, calipers, gauges, and other inspection tools.
Strong blueprint reading skills, including the ability to interpret geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
Hands-on experience performing CNC machine setups and making program edits to optimize machining operations.
Demonstrated ability to read and understand CNC programs and operational layouts.
Solid understanding of tooling requirements for CNC machining, including tool selection, pre-setting, and adjustment.
Proficiency in using precision measuring instruments to verify tolerances and ensure part quality.
Ability to work from layouts, job packets, and work orders with high attention to detail and accuracy.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience with Mazak CNC machines and Mazatrol programming language.
experience in CNC milling and turning operations, including CNC mill and lathe work.
Exposure to Swiss CNC and Swiss lathe equipment, such as Citizen machines.
Familiarity with CMM inspection for verifying complex dimensions and tolerances.
Experience in a job shop environment producing custom or varied parts.
Comfort working with power and hand tools and following detailed work instructions.
Ability to contribute to process improvements and maintain organized, efficient work cells.

Work Environment
The role is based in a job shop environment that is very clean, organized, well lit, and temperature controlled. Work is performed on 2nd shift, Monday through Thursday from 3:00 p.m. to 1:30 a.m., following a 4/10 schedule. The machinist works in a cell-based setup with blueprints, work orders, CNC machines, and precision measuring equipment, using both power and hand tools to complete machining tasks. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $60000.00 - $73000.00/yr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
