Job Description
This contract role focuses on MIG and tack welding of mild steel in a high-volume production manufacturing environment on the first shift. You will read blueprints and work instructions to fabricate parts accurately, use a variety of shop tools and equipment, and visually inspect parts to ensure consistent quality. This position offers the opportunity to apply and grow your welding and mechanical skills in a safe, clean, and well-organized facility.
Responsibilities
Perform MIG and tack welding on mild steel in a production manufacturing environment.
Follow blueprints and work instructions to accurately fabricate work orders and weldments.
Use mechanical aptitude to set up, operate, and adjust welding equipment and other shop tools as needed.
Carry out basic fabrication tasks, including grinding and finishing, to meet dimensional and quality requirements.
Troubleshoot issues with weld quality, fit-up, or equipment and take corrective action.
Use hand and power tools safely for preparation, assembly, and finishing of parts.
Check the quality of parts visually and ensure welds meet established standards and specifications.
Work collaboratively with other weld department team members to meet production schedules.
Follow all safety procedures, including the use of required personal protective equipment and participation in safety training.
Maintain a clean and organized work area in accordance with shop standards.
Essential Skills
At least 3 years of MIG/GMAW welding experience in a manufacturing environment.
Proficiency in MIG and tack welding on mild steel.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and work/operator instructions.
Strong mechanical inclination with the ability to use hand and power tools and perform basic troubleshooting.
Experience with grinding and the use of hand tools in a fabrication setting.
Ability to perform consistent, high-quality welds in a production environment.
Capability to visually inspect parts and identify weld or fabrication defects.
Commitment to following safety procedures and using required personal protective equipment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience with TIG welding and other forms of welding.
Exposure to welding stainless steel, aluminum, and other materials.
Fitting experience for assembling and positioning components prior to welding.
Experience operating overhead cranes and forklifts in a shop environment.

Work Environment
This role is based in a production manufacturing facility on the first shift, typically running from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The weld department is a safe, clean, and organized area with a team of approximately 12 employees. The shop floor does not have air conditioning and can become hot, especially during warmer months, so comfort working in higher temperatures is important. You will work with MIG welding equipment, grinding tools, hand and power tools, and may be around overhead cranes and forklifts. Steel-toe footwear with metatarsal protection is required; metatarsal covers are available. Eye and ear protection is provided, and you will complete safety videos and a training orientation before working independently.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $21.00/hr.
