Robert Half is seeking an experienced Legal Secretary / Litigation Legal Assistant for a prominent law firm in Garden City, NY. This position is fully onsite and offers the opportunity to join a well-established legal team supporting busy attorneys in litigation, trusts and estates, and appellate matters. The role is expected to continue until a permanent hire is identified and could convert to a permanent position for the right candidate.

Location: Garden City, NY (Onsite 5 Days per Week)

Employment Type: Temporary-to-Hire or Long-Term Contract

Hours: Standard Business Hours

Pay Rate: $30-$35 per hour

Key Responsibilities

Prepare and format legal documents, including motions, briefs, affidavits, affirmations, litigation backs, and court filings.

Independently gather exhibits, supporting documentation, and prepare exhibit lists.

Perform electronic court filings in New York State and Federal Courts, including:

New York Supreme Courts

Surrogate's Courts

Federal Courts (PACER)

New York Court of Appeals

Monitor attorney eTracks notifications and manage critical court deadlines.

Maintain attorney calendars and scheduling through Microsoft Outlook.

Update and maintain attorney contacts and client information.

Coordinate depositions, service of process, appellate printing, and other litigation support activities with outside vendors.

Bates-stamp and organize documents for productions and discovery requests.

Transcribe attorney dictation using Philips SpeechExec and digital audio recordings.

Answer and direct incoming calls professionally.

Schedule and coordinate client meetings, conference calls, and Zoom meetings.

Requirements

Qualifications

3+ years of legal secretarial or legal assistant experience in a law firm environment.

Strong knowledge of New York court filing procedures and e-filing systems.

Experience with Supreme Court, Surrogate's Court, and Federal Court filings.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly:

Microsoft Word

Microsoft Outlook

Experience creating:

Tables of Contents

Tables of Authorities

Bookmarked PDF and Word documents

Familiarity with PACER and attorney timekeeping systems such as Juris is preferred.

Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced legal environment.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.
