Medical Secretary / Clinical Secretary
Location: New Haven, CT (On-Site)
Duration: 6-Month Contract
Schedule: 7.5-hour shifts between 7:00 AM - 6:00 PM, Monday-Friday
Pay Rate: $25.00/hour
About the Role
One of Connecticut's leading healthcare systems is seeking a Medical Secretary to support a busy oncology department in New Haven. This position provides clinical scheduling, patient access, and administrative support while serving as a key point of contact for patients, providers, and visitors. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, customer-focused, and experienced working in a fast-paced medical environment.
Key Responsibilities
Schedule and coordinate patient appointments using EPIC.
Manage a high volume of incoming phone calls and faxes, prioritizing and directing inquiries appropriately.
Check patients in and out for appointments.
Verify patient information and maintain accurate medical records.
Provide exceptional customer service to patients, families, visitors, and referring providers.
Assist with patient registration, intake, and appointment coordination.
Handle administrative and clerical duties to support clinical operations.
Communicate effectively with providers, clinical staff, and patients to ensure efficient workflow.
Provide coverage and support across various clinical areas as needed.
Maintain confidentiality and compliance with healthcare regulations.
Required Qualifications
Experience as a Medical Secretary, Medical Receptionist, Patient Service Representative, or similar healthcare support role.
Experience working with EPIC or another electronic medical record (EMR) system.
Strong patient service and customer support skills.
Knowledge of patient registration, scheduling, and healthcare office procedures.
Excellent communication, organisational, and multitasking abilities.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Oncology experience preferred but not required.
Experience with patient access and prior authorisation processes.
Additional healthcare administrative or front-desk experience.
