Job Title: Electrical CAD Systems Administrator
Job Description
The Electrical CAD Systems Administrator manages, supports, and optimizes a suite of electrical CAD applications used for PCB design and data management. This role administers Cadence ECAD tools, including OrCAD, System Capture, Allegro Layout, Pulse, EDM, and CIP, to ensure stable operation, high performance, and strong adoption across engineering teams. The position focuses on enabling reliable tool ecosystems, consistent data management, and scalable workflows that enhance engineering productivity and product quality.
Responsibilities
Administer and maintain Cadence ECAD tools, including OrCAD, System Capture, Allegro Layout, Pulse, EDM, CIP, and Allegro X, to ensure stable, high-performance operation.
Manage ECAD data management environments, including parts libraries, symbols, footprints, constraints, and release processes, to support consistent and accurate PCB design workflows.
Onboard, train, and support new and existing users, providing guidance on best practices, tool usage, and standardized workflows.
Troubleshoot complex ECAD tool issues, diagnose root causes, and implement effective solutions in collaboration with engineering and IT teams.
Develop, document, and maintain best practices, standards, templates, and design guidelines to improve design efficiency and data quality.
Create and maintain documentation, standards, and training materials to support users and drive consistent tool adoption.
Collaborate closely with IT to plan and execute tool upgrades, deployments, integrations, and long-term system architecture initiatives.
Lead and support major transformations, including migration from legacy tools to System Capture and Allegro X, ensuring minimal disruption and strong user adoption.
Enhance ECAD-MCAD interoperability through IDX/IDF collaboration workflows and other mechanical interchange formats.
Prepare and support future integrations with enterprise PLM platforms, focusing on data integrity, traceability, and scalable processes.
Support electrical engineers in a product development environment by ensuring tools, libraries, and workflows align with project and product requirements.
Manage multiple priorities across engineering and IT stakeholders, balancing day-to-day support with strategic improvement initiatives.
Drive workflow automation and custom interfaces that streamline design processes and improve overall engineering efficiency.
Essential Skills
Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
5+ years of experience administering Cadence PCB design tools.
Hands-on experience with Cadence ECAD tools such as OrCAD, System Capture, Allegro Layout, Pulse, EDM, and CIP.
Strong understanding of PCB design workflows, including symbols, footprints, constraints, and release processes.
Experience supporting electrical engineers in a product development environment.
Proficiency in ECAD data management, including library management and structured design data.
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills for resolving complex ECAD tool and workflow issues.
Ability to create clear documentation, standards, and training content for engineering users.
Effective communication and user-support skills, with the ability to work across hardware engineering, mechanical design, and IT.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and stakeholders in a dynamic engineering and IT environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Familiarity with mechanical interchange formats such as IDX and IDF for ECAD-MCAD collaboration.
Knowledge of electrical panel or wiring design tools, such as EPLAN or similar platforms.
Experience with ECAD-MCAD interoperability and collaboration workflows.
Exposure to PLM system integration and preparation for enterprise PLM platforms.
Interest in workflow automation, custom interfaces, and next-generation Cadence platforms.
A strong inclination toward technical ownership, innovation, and building scalable engineering design environments.
Work Environment
The role operates in a collaborative environment with frequent interaction across hardware engineering, mechanical design, and IT teams. The position follows standard business hours with flexibility based on project needs and support demands. Work is primarily onsite or hybrid, depending on engineering lab access and tool administration requirements. The environment includes regular cross-functional meetings, user support touchpoints, and a mix of independent system ownership and collaborative project execution, offering significant influence over ECAD tool architecture, workflow automation, and system integrations.
