Job Title: Senior Electrical EngineerJob Description
The Senior Electrical Engineer will lead engineering design activities for industrial power systems, with a strong focus on AC power systems ranging from 120V to 15kV and PLC control systems. This role involves performing detailed power system design, preparing engineering calculations and documentation, creating specifications and drawing packages, and ensuring all designs comply with applicable codes and standards. The engineer will collaborate closely with electrical designers and project teams, contribute to field work and installation reviews, and support the growth of a satellite office for a large industrial design operation.
Responsibilities
Collect and prepare technical data and information to support electrical engineering designs for industrial power systems.
Perform detailed engineering calculations, including short circuit analysis, voltage drop, cable, conduit and cable tray sizing, arc flash analysis, lighting calculations, and heat trace design.
Design comprehensive electrical drawing packages such as one-line diagrams, installation details, bills of material, panel schedules, lighting plans, motor schematics, conduit and cable routing plans, and field wiring diagrams.
Develop clear and accurate specifications for electrical equipment including transformers, switchgear, motor control centers, and related components.
Complete electrical designs in accordance with the National Electric Code (NEC) and other applicable industry standards and guidelines.
Work closely with electrical designers, providing technical direction, guidance, and review of their work to ensure quality and consistency.
Assist with field work activities, including checking installations against design documents and participating in troubleshooting and problem-solving efforts.
Use engineering software tools such as AutoDesk Revit for 3D design, AutoCAD for 2D design, Autodesk Construction Cloud, ETAP, and SKM for power system modeling and analysis.
Collaborate with project stakeholders using strong interpersonal and communication skills to clarify requirements, present design solutions, and resolve technical issues.
Maintain accurate project documentation, organize work effectively, and manage multiple tasks and priorities to meet project schedules.
Adhere to safety practices and use required safety protections when visiting client sites, including environments with ladders, stairs, temperature extremes, varying air quality, and moderate to high noise levels.
Travel occasionally by car or air to other company locations or client facilities as needed for project and field support.
Essential Skills
Engineering Technology degree or Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering with a focus in power systems.
10+ years of electrical engineering experience, preferably in industrial power systems and power distribution.
Proficiency in power system design, including AC power systems from 120V to 15kV and PLC control systems.
Hands-on experience performing detailed electrical calculations such as short circuit, voltage drop, arc flash, cable and conduit sizing, lighting, and heat trace.
Ability to design and interpret electrical one-line diagrams, installation details, panel schedules, motor schematics, lighting plans, conduit and cable plans, and field wiring diagrams.
Strong working knowledge of the National Electric Code (NEC) and NFPA standards relevant to electrical systems design.
Experience with power systems and power distribution design in industrial environments.
Proficiency with AutoDesk Revit for 3D electrical design and AutoCAD for 2D drawings.
Experience using Autodesk Construction Cloud for project collaboration and documentation.
Proficiency with power system analysis tools such as ETAP and SKM.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products for documentation, reporting, and communication.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with high attention to detail.
Effective organizational and multitasking skills to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills for collaborating with designers, engineers, and clients.
Ability to frequently walk, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop or kneel, bend and twist, use repeating motions of wrists, hands and fingers, and communicate verbally.
Ability to frequently use up-close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and adjust focus as needed for design and field work.
Valid driver's license in the state of residence and maintained auto insurance coverage to support occasional travel.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred and considered a strong asset.
Experience working within large industrial design projects and satellite office environments.
Comfort with occasional car or air travel to other company locations or client sites.
Commitment to following all safety procedures and using required safety protections at client facilities.
Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Demonstrated ability to mentor and provide direction to electrical designers.
