Summary
This role is responsible for the safe, timely, and accurate movement of products between internal facilities, warehouses, and operational locations. Deliver products according to established route sequences and dispatch schedules while maintaining a strong commitment to safety, quality, and customer service. Load, unload, and secure freight using proper material handling techniques and equipment. Conduct pre-trip, post-trip, and routine vehicle inspections, perform basic preventative maintenance checks, and promptly report mechanical issues. Maintain accurate transportation documentation and inventory records as required. Ensure compliance with company policies, transportation regulations, and safety standards. Keep vehicle interiors and exteriors clean, organized, and presentable, while supporting efficient warehouse and yard operations through effective communication and collaboration with dispatch, logistics, and operations teams.
Duties and Responsibilities
Transport finished goods and raw materials over land to and from manufacturing plants or retail and distribution centers
Ensure cargo is secured properly and compliant with safety regulations
Perform pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspection of vehicle
Inspect vehicles for mechanical items and safety issues and perform preventative maintenance
Plan routes and meet delivery schedules and deadlines
Document and log work/rest periods spent driving and retain fuel/toll receipts
Input information into the automated system for each stage of the loading and unloading process
Comply with truck driving rules and regulations (size, weight, route designations, parking, break periods etc) as well as with company policies and procedures
Maneuver trucks into loading or unloading positions
Collect and verify delivery instructions
Report defects, accidents or violations
Report damaged equipment and materials for Operations Manager
Use of Forklifts and Electric Hand Jacks in a Safe and efficient manner. Obeying all operating procedures and safety regulations.
Completing daily forklift inspections, complying with OSHA regulations
Perform cleaning duties as assigned and complete control point log for those assigned cleaning duties.
Attend staff and department meetings
Actively participate on EOE Teams that improve workplace safety, reduce waste and improve factory efficiencies
Report any and all injuries to your supervisor or manager at the time of injury.
Complete all required training in a timely manner
May be required to work overtime if deemed necessary with occasional weekend work.
Performs all other duties as assigned
Adhere to ERU food safety policies and all government food safety and sanitation regulations (ex. FDA, HACCP, GMP, OSHA)
Required Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED
Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with air brake qualification; no "L" or "Z" restriction permitted.
o Class B CDL required for box truck operation.
o Class A CDL required for semi-truck operation
Valid driver's license
6+ months of verifiable Class A tractor-trailer driving experience
Federal Medication Card- Current DOT Medical Examiner's Certificate and medically qualified to operate a commercial motor vehicle
Ability to climb into and out of the tractor and trailer, bend, reach, push, pull
Automatic transmission and reefer experience
Forklift license or certification
6 months experience in shipping/distribution/warehouse/trucking/loading
Knowledge of trucking regulations
Safety shoes are required for this position
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers
Basic computer skills including e-mail, word processing, and spreadsheets
Excellent observational skills and hand-eye coordination
Good written and verbal communication skills - reaching out to customers and vendors to set up dock appointments
Ability to work in a fast paced environment
Ability to multi-task and prioritize under pressure
Ability to work independently -
History of good attendance
Detail-oriented nature
Ability to work with moderate supervision
Daily travel required
Subject to drug testing at any point in time
