Summary About the Position: This position is located at the Logistics Readiness Center (LRC), U.S. Military Academy, West Point. Located in the scenic Hudson River valley, only 50 miles from New York City, the U.S. Military Academy at West Point is a four-year academic institution, a nationally-renowned historic site, and the oldest continuously occupied military post in America. The undergraduates, known as cadets, are commissioned as officers in the US Army upon graduation. Responsibilities Utilize Computer-Aided Design (CAD) systems to prepare and generate cutting markers for automated cutting systems, performing custom modifications to digital and hard standard patterns to produce Made-to-Measure garments, final fitting all garments. Cut replacement components for garments damaged in manufacturing or found to have defects, damages or mill flaws in fabric weave or knit. Accurately match fabric @type, color, and shade of components re-cut to match the @type, color and shade of the fabric in the original garment. Perform the final fitting of highly-tailored uniform garments. Mark stock garments with dimensional alterations necessary to properly fit the Cadet within fit-requirements. Perform set-up of industrial fusing systems to apply fusible materials onto a variety of fabrics. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Fabric Worker without more than normal supervision to include: (1) marking garments for adjustment; (2) operating standard equipment under instruction; (3) inspecting cut pieces for accuracy; and (4) preparing components for finishing. Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. To meet the basic eligibility, you must receive at least two points on the screen-out element indicated above and must have an average of two points on all the job elements listed below. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision Screen Out Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (Other Than Blueprint Reading) Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc. Knowledge of Materials Measurement and Layout Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) PHYSICAL EFFORT: Stand at work tables to measure, mark, label, and cut materials for long periods. Continually use eyes, arms, hands, and fingers for using tools such as spreading machines, shears and power cutters. Often does considerable stooping and bending. Handle rolls of material or garment pieces that are consistently heavy and bulky, weighing 25-120 pounds. WORKING CONDITIONS: Shop is adequately lighted, ventilated, and heated. Subject to cuts, punctures, scratches, and other irritations and injuries from handling sharp tools. Subject to allergies from dyes, dust, and lint from fabrics. Education This job does not have an education qualification requirement.
