Summary This position is located in the Facilities Management Service at the Richmond VA Medical Center in Richmond, VA. The primary purpose of this Motor Vehicle Operator position is to transport passengers, equipment, supplies and other items essential to the Core Outreach Team (COT). Please note: This position requires a current and valid State issued Class B Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with passenger endorsement. Responsibilities Major duties include but are not limited to: Operates the following @types of equipment and vehicles: 35-passenger bus, vans (including wheelchair vans), trucks, station wagons, and sedans. Drives and maintains the rural health mobile clinic vehicle which has an approximate weight of 29,500 pounds. Operates gasoline or diesel-powered vehicles over Federal, state, and county roads and city streets in all traffic conditions and is required to load and unload vehicles. Dispatches General Services Administration (GSA) vehicles. Coordinates with service shop for maintenance and repairs. Keeps interior and exterior of vehicles clean. Performs record keeping of fuel and mileage, and reports to the GSA Motor Pool. Collects and files all completed motor vehicle trip tickets. Transports medical center personnel, medical equipment, supplies, linen, mail and other items essential to the operation of the COT and assigned Medical Center. Loads and unloads equipment and materials assuring that cargo is protected from the weather and secured to prevent falling. Exercises responsibility for mobile clinic vehicles to include maintenance, driving, trip planning due to size of vehicle, waste disposal and setup. Additional duties may include administrative support, when time permits. Performs other related duties as assigned. Qualifications PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK CONDITIONS: The person in this position works in all weather conditions. The duties performed consists of moderate to heavy physical effort in climbing in or on vehicles; trailers, cars, or vans to load, unload or tie down material and equipment; may include pushing and pulling carts, and wheel chairs, lifting equipment, supplies, etc.; and driving long hours on trips. The person in this position must be physically sound and have good coordination of eyes, hands, feet, and vision and depth perception. Must be mentally alert to traffic hazards and dangers of the highway. The person in this position operates vehicles in all @types of traffic and weather on public roads (or the equivalent), exposed to the danger of serious accidents, heavy traffic, and highway speeds over complicated road and Interchange systems. May be exposed to dirt and fumes and to the possibility of cuts, bruises, and broken bones as a result of accidents while driving or from falling objects when loading and unloading the vehicle, may also be exposed to patients and linen with all @types of diseases, viruses, etc. The person in this position performs other related duties as assigned, which may include snow and ice removal during extreme circumstances or emergency situations. Will also work in an office setting while maintaining vehicle log and maintenance information.
