Wage: $20-28/hr
POSITION STATEMENT:
Incumbent provides counseling to community members and persons who are chemically dependent. Carries an active, weekly caseload of clientele to include: assessments, referrals, individual counseling, group therapy, record keeping/documentation and case management, as well as outreach and community education.
MAJOR DUTIES:
Develops a caseload per staffing assignments of persons with chemical dependency problems and implements a treatment plan in accordance with prevailing standard. Carries an active, weekly caseload of clientele to include: assessments, referrals, individual counseling, group therapy, and case management, as well as outreach and community education.
Possesses communication skills with people of all ages.
Sensitive to cultural similarities and differences.
Provide information with the client's existing tradition and cultural values.
Works closely with Health Professionals at local, county, and state level in providing adequate referrals, support service associated with proper delivery of services for clients who are chemically dependent.
Maintains extensive contact with judges, social service agencies, attorney, probation and parole, TANF, school counselors, Court Personnel, and other referring agencies as it regards to client progress.
Ability to handle fast pace and high volume, utilizing good judgment, efficient time management and professionalism.
Accurately represent the agency to and maintain positive working relationships with the general public, clients, funding sources, government bodies, etc.
Participate in peer review/audit activities as designated.
Other duties as assigned.
SCOPE AND EFFECT:
Provides drug and alcohol counseling per individuals or groups as deemed necessary.
GUIDELINES:
Will operate within the policies and procedures of Bear Paw Recovery policies and procedures as well as any appropriate Federal/State Grants and contract rules and regulations.
PERSONAL CONTACTS:
Work involves contact with clients, families, schools, courts, social services, and other agencies.
PURPOSE OF CONTACT:
To assess and direct clientele in their path to recovery.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Most work is done in the Bear Paw Recovery Office or able to set up remote office with ability to maintain privacy and confidentiality. Travel to various training and conference sites, including government, tribal and sometimes private treatment centers is required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Work is sedentary. No physical demands beyond normal endurance are required.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Licensed Addiction Counselor Candidate
License Addiction Counselor (LAC)
Degree in Arts/Science degree in Human services/chemical dependency, counseling, social work, or related field.
Ability to communicate skillfully in oral and written form and to maintain proper clinical documentation in client records,
Knowledge and ability to utilize counseling and case management techniques as they relate to clients.
Applicant must not use mood altering chemicals in a manner adversely affecting work Performance, effectiveness, credibility, or professional integrity.
Must be certified Health Care Provider CPR/Standard first aid or willing to obtain certification within one year.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Associate of Arts Degree in Human Services or related field with a chemical dependency focus and one year prior experience in counseling or case management.
Licensed Addiction Counselor (L.A.C.) and/or Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor or Licensed Social Worker.
Required Degree: Must possess a minimum of an Associate's degree in addiction studies.
Required Licensure: Must be licensed at the independent practitioner level or willing and able to become Licensed.
PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES:
Knowledge of the variety of models and theories of addiction and other problems related to substance use.
Knowledge of helping strategies for reducing the negative effects of substanceabuse, abuse, and dependence.
Knowledge of the established professional code of ethics that define the professional @context within which the counselor work; in order to maintain professional standards and safeguard the client.
Explain how you apply the ASAM criteria across the continuum of care from admission to discharge.
Time management and organization skills especially as it relates to documentation.
