THE POSITION
Become the lead force behind one of the most important systems in the state park network! As a Wastewater Treatment Plant Chief Operator with the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, you will manage essential wastewater facilities that serve park visitors and local communities. The work is hands-on, meaningful, and central to the success of the Laurel Hill Complex. Step into a role where your skill and dedication make a difference!
DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This position is responsible for skilled technical work in the operation and maintenance of major wastewater systems within the Laurel Hill State Park Complex. The work supports safe water operations that serve both park facilities and surrounding communities. As a Wastewater Treatment Plant Chief Operator, you will perform the following duties:
Plant Operation:Operate wastewater treatment processes and make decisions that guide daily system performance
System Maintenance:Inspect equipment, perform repairs, and complete routine preventive maintenance across multiple plant systems
Water Testing:Collect samples, as well as analyze chemical and physical properties to ensure safe and compliant water conditions
Equipment Oversight:Work with pumps, motors, valves, and related infrastructure to keep collection and conveyance systems functioning
Record Keeping:Document operational data, maintenance activities, and required reports for regulatory review
Technical Interaction:Coordinate with Department of Environmental Protection staff on permit matters and regulatory expectations

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with a 30-minute lunch. Work schedule is 5 days per week, including weekends and holidays as needed.
Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
One year of experience as a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration);or
One year of experience in the operation and maintenance of a wastewater treatment plant.
Special Requirements :
All positions require possession of a valid certification issued by the Pennsylvania State Board for Certification of Water and Wastewater System Operators as a wastewater treatment plant operator that is equal to or greater than the classification and subclassification of the wastewater system to be operated or maintained (Class C, Subclasses 1 and 3).
This position requires possession of a valid certification issued by the Pennsylvania State Board for Certification of Water and Wastewater System Operators as a water treatment plant operator that is equal to or greater than the classification and subclassification of the water system to be operated or maintained (Class C, Subclasses 1 and 3).
This position requires possession of an active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C driver's license or equivalent.
