Staff Accountant

Job Description:

Summary:

Perform professional accounting work involving compilation, consolidation and analysis of financial data. Ensures the integrity of accounting information by recording, verifying, consolidating, and entering transactions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Prepare timely and accurate worksheets, financial statements and reports.

Assist in preparation of monthly management report and accompanying schedules, worksheets and narratives, including "Budget vs. Actual" variance reports.

Prepare and analyze financial statements and reports to include a variety of reasonably standard, periodic "intermediate" or "end products" such as cost reports, trial balances, balance sheets, profit-and-loss statements or statements of sourcing and application of funds.

Prepare appropriate commentary relating to report items of significance, and conducts pertinent investigation of the accounts involved.

Support the needs of the organization by understanding the roles, responsibilities and activities performed by organizational functions; understanding the interrelationship among organizational functions, and collaborating across functional and organizational lines.

Document policies, procedures and workflow for assigned areas of responsibility.

Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; participating in professional organizations.

Special projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

Basic understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and financial processes as well as Knowledge of Statutory accounting principles.

Accounting, analytical and problem solving skills.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Must be able to effectively handle multiple projects simultaneously in a deadline driven environment.

Detail oriented with a high sense of urgency and ability to work with minimal direct supervision.

Accuracy in financial reporting and calculations is required.

Ability to work with associates at all levels of the organization and other departments.

Supervisory Responsibility:

None

Education and/or Experience:

Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, or Accounting.

Minimum one to three years of experience in Accounting/Finance role.

Computer and Software Skills:

Strong skill in operation of a personal computer, including Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Google Mail, and Google Sheets.

Experience with computerized financial reporting systems.

Experience with SQL query @type software.

Bankway general ledger experience a plus.

Additional Information:

Extended hours may be required during quarter-end and other reporting cycles.
