Job Title: Maintenance Technician
2nd Shift: 9:30am - 7:30pm Monday - Thursday, 7am - 11am on Fridays for PMs
$24/hr
Job Description
This role focuses on maintaining and repairing food production equipment and facility systems in a clean, climate-controlled manufacturing environment. You will perform primarily mechanical troubleshooting on smaller components, support HVAC and electrical systems, and help ensure all equipment meets food safety standards. You will use a maintenance management system to plan and document work, implement preventative and predictive maintenance, and collaborate closely with production and quality teams to keep equipment running safely and efficiently.
Responsibilities
Lead by example by consistently modeling the organization's mission and values and support holding other maintenance technicians accountable to these behaviors.
Perform building HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and facility repairs as needed to maintain safe and reliable operations.
Maintain and repair food production equipment, including conveyors, mixers, lifts, and roller grill machines with clutches and drive valves, with a focus on small component troubleshooting.
Utilize an electronic maintenance system to manage equipment records, preventive maintenance processes, parts ordering, and predictive maintenance activities.
Implement preventative and predictive maintenance measures and procedures for production and facility equipment to minimize downtime and extend asset life.
Maintain an organized inventory of repair equipment, supplies, and tools to ensure timely completion of maintenance tasks.
Keep maintenance areas clean, orderly, and compliant with all required food safety and sanitation standards.
Complete regular inspections of facilities and equipment in collaboration with the Maintenance Manager to identify issues and plan corrective actions.
Respond quickly to equipment and facility emergencies, notify appropriate personnel, and follow established safety protocols at all times.
Proactively contribute to hygienic equipment design and propose improvements that eliminate waste, increase equipment uptime, and enhance employee safety.
Regularly clean, inspect, and maintain tools in a lean, organized manner to support efficient maintenance work.
Perform additional maintenance duties as requested by management to support overall plant operations.
Work collaboratively with production and quality departments to coordinate maintenance activities and minimize impact on manufacturing schedules.
Follow all food safety and quality requirements, including sanitizing work areas and equipment before and after maintenance activities and complying with QA inspections.
Essential Skills
Hands-on mechanical maintenance experience, with emphasis on troubleshooting small components on production equipment.
HVAC experience sufficient to perform basic maintenance and repairs on building and process systems.
Electrical experience, including safe work with 240V systems and the ability to read and use electrical schematics for troubleshooting.
Experience with hydraulics and pneumatics, including diagnosing and repairing related components on manufacturing equipment.
Demonstrated ability to perform preventive maintenance and repair on facility and production equipment in a manufacturing environment.
Troubleshooting skills for mechanical, electrical, and facility issues in a production setting.
Ability to work with maintenance repair processes in a food manufacturing or similar regulated environment, adhering to sanitation and food safety requirements.
Comfort working independently for portions of the shift while still collaborating effectively with the broader maintenance team.
Ability to use or learn an electronic maintenance management system to document work orders, track parts, and manage preventive maintenance.
Capability to respond quickly to emergencies and follow established safety procedures.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience in automotive or HVAC maintenance is highly relevant and transferable to this role.
Experience in food manufacturing maintenance, with familiarity in food-safe equipment and sanitation requirements, is strongly preferred.
Experience in general manufacturing maintenance or as a plant technician is beneficial and provides a good foundation for this position.
Ability to interpret mechanical and electrical schematics for troubleshooting and repair.
Familiarity with facilities maintenance, including building systems, utilities, and general repair tasks.
Understanding of hygienic equipment design principles and continuous improvement mindset focused on reducing waste and improving uptime.
Comfort working within structured quality and food safety frameworks, including QA inspections and documentation.
PLC troubleshooting is noted but not a primary requirement; PLCs are not a major factor in day-to-day responsibilities.
Why Work Here?
You will work in a climate-controlled facility that prioritizes safety, cleanliness, and food-grade standards, offering a comfortable and stable environment. The role provides a consistent full-time schedule with clear shift structure and support from a dedicated maintenance planner and manager. You will collaborate with production and quality teams, gain exposure to specialized food manufacturing equipment, and develop your skills in a regulated, process-driven setting. The culture emphasizes teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement, giving you the opportunity to contribute ideas that enhance equipment reliability, safety, and efficiency.
Work Environment
This position is based in a climate-controlled food manufacturing facility with a strong focus on cleanliness, sanitation, and food safety. You will start on first shift for training, then train on second shift, and ultimately move to third shift full-time, working approximately 11:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m., Monday through Friday, with some Saturdays as needed to support equipment uptime. A maintenance planner is on-site from early morning to mid-afternoon, and the Maintenance Manager works daytime hours, so you will have support available, with some independent work during the last portion of your shift. The environment involves troubleshooting and maintaining conveyors, mixers, lifts, roller grill machines, and other minor production and facility equipment, with less emphasis on refrigeration. Work is performed under strict food-grade standards, with QA inspecting equipment and processes. You will follow sanitation procedures, including sanitizing before and after work, and adhere to facility dress code requirements such as wearing smocks, hair nets, and other appropriate food-safety attire.
