Job Description
We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the design and development of electrical systems and components for prefabricated control and switchgear buildings, UL 891 switchboards, metal-clad medium voltage switchgear, UL 1008 transfer switches, UL 414 metering enclosures, UL 508A control panels, and other related custom power distribution products. In this role, you manage projects from concept through production release, ensuring compliance with applicable codes, standards, and customer requirements while optimizing designs for efficiency, reliability, and cost.
Responsibilities Include
Lead mechanical and electrical system design from initial concept through final release, ensuring full compliance with codes, standards, and client specifications.
Design and develop power distribution and control systems for low- and medium-voltage applications, including switchgear, switchboards, transfer switches, metering enclosures, and control panels.
Develop detailed electrical drawings, schematics, and layouts using AutoCAD and AutoCAD Electrical in both 2D and 3D formats.
Select and specify appropriate electrical components for each project and maintain accurate bills of materials (BOM), releasing them to operations in a timely manner.
Coordinate closely with suppliers, internal engineering teams, and sales to support design requirements, clarify specifications, and resolve technical issues.
Optimize designs for efficiency, reliability, manufacturability, cost-effectiveness, and market competitiveness.
Manage multiple concurrent projects while maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and performance.
Support customers during equipment start-up, providing troubleshooting and warranty-related technical assistance as needed.
Conduct formal design reviews, participate in proto@type testing, and collaborate with test teams to validate designs and ensure they meet performance and safety criteria.
Maintain complete and accurate design documentation, including version control and as-built updates throughout the project lifecycle.
Apply a thorough understanding of UL, NEC, IEC, and related industry standards and electrical codes to all design activities.
Incorporate sheet metal design principles into enclosure and equipment layouts for power distribution and control products.
Skills & Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
Experience in electrical/mechanical design for low-or medium-voltage power distribution and control systems.
Electrical systems, components, and applicable industry standards (UL, NEC, IEC, etc.).
Familiarity with electrical codes, regulations, and industry
Proficiency in developing 2D and 3D electrical drawings and schematics using AutoCAD Electrical.
Sheet metal design experience
Nice to Have
Experience with additional design software such as Revit and Inventor.
Prior experience in electrical project management, including coordination of schedules, resources, and deliverables.
Familiarity with custom power distribution and control equipment for industrial, utility, commercial, and mission-critical facilities.
Ability to support start-up, testing, and warranty activities in the field or in a test environment.
Experience working in a vertically integrated manufacturing environment where design, fabrication, and assembly are performed in-house.
Interest in contributing to an expanding engineering team within a long-established electrical equipment manufacturer.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $48.00 - $60.00/hr.
