Job Title: Manufacturing Engineer (Site Setup & Launch Support)
Job Description
This role supports the launch and setup of a new manufacturing site working with the Engineering Manager. You will coordinate facility setup activities, validate manufacturing requirements, and ensure the site is fully operational and ready for production transfer. The position emphasizes hands-on execution, coordination, problem solving, and translating engineering plans into practical, efficient operations on the manufacturing floor, rather than detailed technical design work.
Responsibilities
Support the startup and expansion of a new manufacturing facility from initial setup through readiness for production transfer.
Act as the on-site engineering representative and primary point of contact for day-to-day facility setup activities.
Read and interpret facility layouts, equipment placement plans, and manufacturing documentation to guide setup efforts.
Verify and validate bills of materials (BOMs), equipment lists, tools, and facility requirements to ensure completeness and accuracy.
Coordinate the setup of workstations, process lines, and production equipment in alignment with approved layouts and plans.
Work closely with procurement teams to identify, request, and track orders for equipment, tools, carts, tables, ladders, extension cords, and other operational items needed for launch.
Mark and tape off production floor layouts and ensure equipment and workstations are installed according to specified designs.
Collaborate with engineering teams at the existing Memphis facility to validate data, confirm requirements, and support production transfer activities.
Conduct site verification activities to confirm that manufacturing processes can be successfully implemented in the new facility.
Support basic time studies and process observations to validate line balance, workflow, and efficiency as needed.
Provide clear direction and oversight to contingent labor supporting setup activities, ensuring work is completed correctly, safely, and on schedule.
Identify gaps, inconsistencies, or potential issues in layouts, equipment, documentation, or processes and proactively drive practical solutions.
Document findings, updates, and changes to layouts, BOMs, and setup plans and communicate them effectively to stakeholders.
Support the implementation of production layouts and material flow to ensure efficient movement of materials and products through the facility.
Essential Skills
Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
At least 2 years of experience in a manufacturing, production, or industrial environment.
Experience in Industrial Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering.
Experience with manufacturing facility layouts, production lines, or process setup activities.
Experience reviewing and validating bills of materials (BOMs), equipment lists, or manufacturing documentation.
Experience supporting facility expansions, launches, or production transfers.
Ability to work independently with limited supervision in a dynamic environment.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities during a facility launch.
Strong problem-solving skills, including the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Comfort working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment with evolving priorities.
Strong attention to detail and the ability to verify information and data for accuracy.
Effective communication and coordination skills for working with engineering, procurement, operations, and contingent labor teams.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Ability to read and interpret facility layouts, equipment placement plans, and manufacturing documentation.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Pertinent experience as a production engineer, project engineer, industrial engineer, or manufacturing engineer.
Experience with production layout and material flow design.
Familiarity with line setup and facility layout activities.
Exposure to CAD tools for reviewing or interpreting layouts and equipment placement.
Experience conducting or supporting time studies and process observations.
Experience developing or working with work instructions and other manufacturing documentation.
Demonstrated ability to coordinate cross-functional activities and keep stakeholders informed during launch projects.
Comfort being on the manufacturing floor, solving practical problems, and driving execution.
Interest in taking ownership of projects and working closely with a launch or engineering manager to stand up new operations.
Work Environment
The role is based on-site in a new manufacturing facility and follows a typical schedule of 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with additional overtime as needed to support launch and setup activities. You will work primarily on the manufacturing floor in a hands-on environment, coordinating workstation and line setup, taping off layouts, and overseeing installation of equipment and operational items. The facility operates in a climate-controlled environment, providing a comfortable setting while you support production layout, material flow, and process implementation. The position offers the opportunity to work closely with a launch manager and cross-functional teams, gaining exposure to all aspects of establishing a new manufacturing operation, including layouts, workstation setup, equipment validation, and process line implementation.
