This role supports power generation and heavy industrial projects by contributing to mechanical design, drafting, and construction package development. The Engineer I works closely with engineering, construction, and maintenance teams to develop and modify mechanical designs, perform field walkdowns, update drawings, and support project execution. The position offers hands-on exposure to critical infrastructure projects and provides a strong foundation for long-term career growth in a power generation environment.
Responsibilities
Perform field walkdowns in power generation and industrial facilities to verify existing conditions and gather accurate data for design and construction activities.
Review, mark up, and update mechanical drawings and piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) to reflect current plant conditions and design changes.
Develop design packages, construction specifications, and engineering documentation to support capital projects, outages, and plant improvement initiatives.
Support engineering estimates, project planning, and design development activities by providing technical input, scope clarification, and documentation updates.
Provide oversight and quality reviews of contractor-produced design packages to ensure accuracy, completeness, and adherence to project requirements.
Utilize CAD software to create, revise, and maintain mechanical drawings and P&IDs in an industrial environment.
Support construction and maintenance teams during project execution by answering technical questions, clarifying drawings, and assisting with field issues.
Ensure compliance with internal and industry design standards, specifications, and best practices for utility and industrial facilities.
Assist with material takeoffs, cost estimates, and preparation of construction packages to support budgeting and project execution.
Collaborate with plant personnel, vendors, and cross-functional engineering teams to coordinate design work and resolve technical issues.
Support the updating of as-built drawings and engineering documentation to maintain accurate records of plant configurations.
Contribute to budget preparation and contractor oversight activities by providing technical support and reviewing deliverables.
Work with operations, maintenance, and construction teams to understand plant needs and incorporate operational feedback into designs.
Apply strong problem-solving skills and a team-oriented approach to deliver high-quality engineering support on schedule.
Essential Skills
Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited university.
0-5 years of engineering experience.
Previous experience in power generation, heavy industrial, utility, or related industrial environments.
Demonstrated experience walking down and marking up mechanical prints in an industrial setting.
Hands-on experience performing CAD work for mechanical P&IDs.
Proficiency with CAD software for creating and modifying engineering drawings.
Familiarity with mechanical and piping design practices.
Ability to perform field walkdowns and verify existing conditions in industrial facilities.
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and ability to build relationships across multiple stakeholder groups.
Ability to support material takeoffs, cost estimates, and construction package preparation.
Ability to review and interpret electrical drawings as part of multidisciplinary project work.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience in power generation facilities such as combined cycle, fossil, hydro, or nuclear plants.
Heavy industrial or manufacturing experience supporting plant operations or capital projects.
Experience supporting capital projects, outages, or plant improvement projects from design through execution.
Familiarity with piping systems, valves, pumps, heat exchangers, and other plant mechanical equipment.
Experience updating as-built drawings and engineering documentation for industrial facilities.
Knowledge of utility or industrial design standards and specifications.
Experience preparing material takeoffs, cost estimates, and complete construction packages.
Exposure to utility or energy industry processes and project workflows.
Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or active progress toward Professional Engineer (PE) licensure.
Experience working directly with operations, maintenance, and construction teams in a plant environment.
Ability to collaborate effectively with vendors and external contractors.
Demonstrated ability to contribute to budget preparation and contractor oversight.
Work Environment
This position is based onsite at a power plant in the Atlanta, GA area. The role is performed in an operating power generation facility, which includes time spent in plant areas around mechanical and electrical equipment, piping systems, and other heavy industrial infrastructure. The Engineer I works closely with plant personnel, construction teams, and maintenance staff in a field-based environment, using CAD and other engineering tools to support active projects. The setting involves a mix of office-based design work and field walkdowns within the plant, providing direct exposure to real-world power generation operations and construction activities.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $40.00/hr.
