Accounts Payable Specialist

Description

Our client is seeking an Accounts Payable Specialist for a 4-6+ month onsite contract engagement. This role will support day-to-day accounts payable operations and help ensure timely, accurate processing of invoices and payments. The ideal candidate will have strong attention to detail, experience working in high-volume AP environments, and the ability to collaborate effectively with internal departments and external vendors. Government or nonprofit experience is a plus.

Key Responsibilities:

Process a high volume of vendor invoices accurately and in a timely manner.

Review invoices for proper coding, approvals, and supporting documentation.

Match invoices to purchase orders and receiving documents, as applicable.

Prepare and process check runs, ACH payments, and wire transfers.

Reconcile vendor statements and resolve invoice discrepancies or payment issues.

Respond to vendor inquiries and maintain positive vendor relationships.

Assist with month-end close activities related to accounts payable.

Maintain organized and accurate AP files and records in accordance with company policies.

Support audit requests and ensure compliance with internal controls and procedures.

Collaborate with procurement, finance, and other internal teams as needed.

Requirements

Qualifications:

2+ years of accounts payable experience preferred.

Experience with full-cycle accounts payable processing.

Government or nonprofit accounting experience is highly desirable.

Proficiency with ERP systems and Microsoft Excel.

Strong organizational skills and keen attention to detail.

Ability to work independently and manage deadlines in an onsite environment.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Attributes:

Familiarity with purchase orders, invoice matching, and vendor management.

Experience working in regulated or compliance-driven environments.

Ability to quickly learn systems and adapt to established processes.
