The 2nd Shift Sanitation Lead oversees a team of approximately 28 sanitation associates in a large-scale bakery production environment. This hands-on role requires detailed disassembly, cleaning, sanitizing, and reassembly of complex food manufacturing equipment while strictly following master sanitation schedules and regulatory standards. The position operates on the 2nd shift from 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., with flexibility for occasional overtime and weekend work as needed.
Responsibilities
Lead, coach, and support a crew of approximately 28 sanitation associates on the 2nd shift to ensure safe, efficient, and thorough cleaning operations.
Perform hands-on disassembly, cleaning, sanitizing, and reassembly of large-scale bakery production equipment, including mixers, ovens, and related machinery.
Follow and enforce master sanitation schedules to ensure all equipment, production lines, and facility areas meet sanitation and regulatory requirements.
Ensure proper application of HACCP principles, FDA requirements, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) in all sanitation activities.
Conduct detailed inspections of equipment and production areas to verify cleanliness and readiness for production after sanitation.
Identify sanitation issues, investigate deviations, and drive root cause analysis to prevent recurrence.
Implement and support process improvement initiatives to enhance sanitation effectiveness, efficiency, and consistency.
Coordinate janitorial duties related to production and common areas to maintain a clean and organized facility.
Train and mentor sanitation team members on proper cleaning methods, safety practices, and adherence to SOPs and sanitation schedules.
Collaborate with production and maintenance teams to plan and sequence sanitation activities around production demands and equipment availability.
Monitor and promote safe work practices, including proper use of cleaning chemicals, tools, and equipment.
Document sanitation activities, issues, and corrective actions in accordance with company policies and regulatory guidelines.
Support a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement within the sanitation crew.
Essential Skills
Minimum 2-3 years of sanitation experience in a food manufacturing facility.
Proven experience leading a sanitation crew or team in a food production environment.
Hands-on experience cleaning and sanitizing large food manufacturing equipment; bakery equipment experience is a plus.
Strong knowledge of HACCP principles and their application in sanitation programs.
Experience following and executing a master sanitation schedule.
Demonstrated experience with process improvement and implementing more efficient sanitation practices.
Experience conducting root cause analysis to resolve sanitation issues and prevent recurrence.
Familiarity with FDA requirements and food safety regulations related to sanitation.
Ability to manage and coordinate a team while remaining actively involved in hands-on sanitation work.
Ability to perform janitorial and sanitation duties in a fast-paced food production environment.
Capability to troubleshoot sanitation challenges associated with equipment that must be disassembled and hand washed.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail to ensure all cleaning tasks are completed thoroughly and on schedule.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience working in a bakery production environment or similar large-scale food manufacturing setting.
Knowledge of standard operating procedures (SOPs) related to sanitation and food safety.
Demonstrated ability to drive continuous improvement initiatives within sanitation processes.
Strong communication and leadership skills to effectively guide and motivate a large sanitation team.
Ability to work 2nd shift (3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.) with openness to some overtime and weekend work as needed.
Work Environment
This role is based in a food manufacturing facility with multiple production lines that produce a variety of bakery products depending on daily order demands. The environment includes large mixers, ovens, and extensive bakery processing equipment, much of which must be disassembled and hand washed, creating unique challenges for the sanitation team. The position operates on the 2nd shift from 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., with the expectation of some overtime and weekend work when required. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $45000.00 - $52000.00/yr.
This is a direct placement opportunity. Benefits will be provided upon start of assignment or earlier if requested by consultant.
