Job Description
The Manufacturing Engineer develops, standardizes, and optimizes CNC machining processes to support both new and existing products in a high-precision metals manufacturing environment. This role focuses on improving quality, throughput, and cost by designing effective tooling and fixturing, leading process validation activities, and partnering closely with production, quality, and maintenance teams. The engineer works hands-on on the shop floor, leveraging GD&T, SPC, and data analysis to drive continuous improvement and ensure robust, repeatable processes that align with the Quality Management System and environmental requirements.
Responsibilities Include
Develop, document, and standardize CNC machining processes for new and existing products to ensure consistency, quality, and efficiency.
Design and optimize tooling, fixturing, and machining methods to improve product quality, increase throughput, and reduce manufacturing costs.
Lead process development and validation activities, including APQP, PFMEA, control plans, and PPAPs, to support new and existing programs.
Support new product launches by conducting machine prove-outs, validating processes, and assisting with production ramp-ups.
Apply GD&T and drawing interpretation to establish robust, repeatable machining processes that meet tight tolerance requirements.
Utilize SPC and data analysis to monitor process capability, identify trends, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
Partner with Production, Quality, and Maintenance teams to diagnose and resolve process, tooling, and equipment issues in a timely manner.
Create, update, and maintain work instructions, routings, and technical documentation to reflect current best practices and process standards.
Train operators and technicians on process standards, SPC techniques, and problem-solving methods to ensure consistent execution on the shop floor.
Ensure compliance with the Quality Management System (QMS) and environmental requirements in all process development and production activities.
Contribute to process improvement and cost reduction projects that enhance internal capabilities and support diversification of product offerings and industries served.
Skills & Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering preferred.
2+ years of experience in a CNC machining manufacturing environment.
Strong working knowledge of CNC lathes, screw machines, and/or precision grinding processes.
Demonstrated experience in manufacturing engineering and process improvement within a metals manufacturing setting.
Experience working in a CNC machining environment with precision machining and tight tolerances.
Proficiency with APQP, PFMEA, PPAP, SPC, and root cause analysis methodologies.
Ability to read, interpret, and apply GD&T on complex mechanical drawings.
Hands-on, shop-floor-oriented mindset with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to interpret drawings and bills of materials (BOMs) to support process development and documentation.
Nice to Have
Experience in metals manufacturing and high-precision machining environments.
Experience working in the automotive industry or similar highly regulated, quality-focused sectors.
Experience developing PFMEAs and control plans for complex machining processes.
Familiarity with CAD/CAM tools to support tooling design and machining method development.
