Overview

The Vermont Department of Fish and Wildlife is seeking applications for a Facilities and Lands Coordinator to work in the Fish and Wildlife regional office located in Montpelier, Vermont. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated professional to help maintain and enhance boating access throughout the state.

Plans, budgets, obtains permits and oversees new construction and ongoing maintenance at all Fish & Wildlife Fishing Access Areas statewide. Plans, develops, and implements Fishing Access Area plans and programs; reviews and analyses proposed projects and plans for consistency with policies, statutes, regulations and rules, and for environmental impact; researches, collects, analyses, and enters information into, and maintains, data bases, and writes reports; reviews and processes grant applications; and prepares, develops and presents informational and educational materials. Responds to encroachment issues on Fishing Access Area properties. Manages pass-through grants for Boating Infrastructure Grants and Clean Vessel Act. Oversees operations at four Department owned shooting ranges. Researches engineering and administrative issues. Develops and maintains technical and administrative expertise in assigned programs. Provides expert opinion, advice and training to Department management and staff, outside parties and the public on assigned programs. Prepares annual reports for Federal Aid and manages related grant agreements. Trains staff, and represents the state in public meetings, in legal proceedings and to regional and national organizations. Develops and implements technical and administrative program changes. Performs related duties as required.

Work requires a high degree of independence and initiative under the general direction of the Lands and Facilities Administrator.

Environmental Factors

Duties are split between an office and field setting. Fieldwork may occur during all weather conditions and involve traversing rough terrain and bodies of water. Some work outside of regular working hours, including attendance at public meetings, may be required. Strong differences of opinion may be encountered on a regular basis.

Work is performed under the general direction of the Lands and Facilities Administrator. Workstation will be the Fish and Wildlife regional office located at in Montpelier, VT. Typical work schedule is Monday through Friday with a mixture of in-office and fieldwork, but occasional night and weekend work is required. Currently work is hybrid with a requirement for 3 in-office days.

This position does not supervise full-time staff but may supervise seasonal/temporary staff.
