This Medical Biller role focuses on end-to-end in-house billing for a fast-growing fertility and gynecology clinic, ensuring accurate billing and charting for medical and laboratory procedures in endocrinology, andrology, and embryology. The position requires substantial hands-on experience with medical billing, insurance authorizations, and claims management, as well as familiarity with EMR systems and medical terminology. You will play a key role in supporting the clinic's expanding lab services while providing clear, professional communication to patients about their billing inquiries.
Responsibilities
Manage the full in-house billing process from start to finish for medical and laboratory procedures, including endocrinology, andrology, and embryology services.
Ensure accurate billing and charting of all medical procedures and lab procedures in accordance with clinic standards and payer requirements.
Apply and maintain proper billing procedures, with particular attention to the clinic's expanding laboratory services.
Handle and submit insurance authorizations in a timely and accurate manner to support patient care and reimbursement.
Manage insurance claims from submission through resolution, including follow-up on denials, rejections, and outstanding balances.
Communicate professionally with patients to address and resolve billing inquiries, questions, and concerns.
Assist with a variety of administrative billing tasks, such as documentation, data entry, and record maintenance.
Collaborate with other members of the billing team to support a growing patient volume and help scale billing operations.
Use EMR systems to enter, review, and update billing-related information, ensuring data integrity and compliance.
Essential Skills
At least 5 years of medical billing experience, with consideration for strong candidates with 3-4 years of experience.
Proven experience handling insurance authorizations and managing claims.
Hands-on experience with EMR systems, preferably EPIC, eClinicalWorks (ECW), and Athena.
Strong knowledge of medical and laboratory terminology, particularly related to endocrinology, andrology, and embryology.
Demonstrated expertise in medical billing processes, including end-to-end in-house billing.
Ability to manage insurance claims and collections with accuracy and attention to detail.
Experience working with insurance authorizations, insurance claims, and claims management in a healthcare setting.
Solid understanding of billing procedures and payer requirements.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Certified Professional Coder (CPC) credential is preferred but not required.
Experience working in a fertility, gynecology, or similar specialty clinic is a plus.
Strong communication skills for interacting with patients about billing inquiries.
Ability to work effectively as part of a growing billing team.
Comfort with administrative billing tasks, documentation, and data entry.
Interest in contributing to a fast-growing clinic environment in New York City.
Work Environment
This role supports a fast-growing fertility and gynecology clinic with a collaborative billing team that is expanding from four members and expected to double in size in the near term. The preferred arrangement is an on-site team in New York City, working out of a midtown Manhattan office, but hybrid or fully remote options are available for the right candidates, potentially for one or two of the biller positions. The current schedule is Monday through Friday, with negotiable hours; common shifts include 8:00 AM-4:00 PM, 9:00 AM-5:00 PM, and 11:00 AM-7:00 PM.
