Job Title: Accounting Clerk Job Description
A well-established machining and manufacturing company in Decatur is seeking an experienced Accounting Clerk to work directly alongside the Vice President of Finance. This role is ideal for someone with a strong accounting background who enjoys working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and is eager to grow into a key financial leadership position. The successful candidate will be comfortable overseeing a broad range of financial activities, including work across multiple business locations.
Responsibilities
Support the Vice President of Finance with day-to-day accounting operations and financial activities.
Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions accurately and in a timely manner.
Prepare and issue customer invoices, ensuring completeness and accuracy of billing information.
Perform regular bank reconciliations and reconcile general ledger accounts to maintain accurate financial records.
Assist with month-end close procedures, including journal entries and financial adjustments.
Maintain and update the general ledger, ensuring proper classification and documentation of transactions.
Compile, review, and distribute financial reports to support management decision-making.
Perform data entry and maintain organized accounting records and documentation.
Support payroll processing activities and verify accuracy of payroll-related data.
Assist with internal and external audits by preparing schedules, documentation, and supporting materials.
Use QuickBooks and Microsoft Excel to manage financial data, generate reports, and perform analysis.
Help manage accounting activities across multiple accounts or business locations, ensuring consistency and accuracy.
Collaborate with leadership and office staff to ensure smooth financial operations within the manufacturing environment.
Identify discrepancies in financial data and resolve issues through research, analysis, and communication with relevant stakeholders.
Essential Skills
2-3+ years of accounting experience in a professional setting.
Previous experience in an accounting leadership or supervisory role such as Controller, Office Manager, Accounting Manager, Senior Accountant, or a similar position.
Strong understanding of general ledger accounting and journal entries.
Hands-on experience with month-end close procedures and related financial processes.
Proficiency in performing bank reconciliations and maintaining accurate account balances.
Ability to produce and interpret financial reporting for management and stakeholders.
Experience managing multiple accounts or supporting accounting functions across multiple business locations.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Solid analytical skills and attention to detail when reviewing financial data.
Proficient in Microsoft Excel for data analysis, reporting, and reconciliation tasks.
Practical experience with QuickBooks or similar accounting software.
Capability to handle accounts payable, accounts receivable, invoicing, and bookkeeping tasks.
Experience supporting payroll processing and related accounting activities.
Comfort working in a machining and manufacturing environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
background in financial reporting and audit support within an accounting or finance department.
Experience in office management or administrative coordination related to accounting functions.
Ability to communicate clearly with colleagues and leadership about financial information and issues.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $34.00/hr.
