Job Title: Controls EngineerJob Description

A leader in aluminum sorting technology is seeking a skilled Controls Engineer to join their engineering team. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a hands-on environment and enjoys solving complex automation challenges. The Controls Engineer will support the design, development, and improvement of automated systems, control panels, and machinery used throughout operations.

Responsibilities

Design and develop control panels for custom machinery, ensuring compliance with internal standards and industry regulations.

Modify, troubleshoot, and optimize PLC programs (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar platforms).

Collaborate with mechanical and electrical teams to integrate controls into new and existing equipment.

Interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams to support machine builds and upgrades.

Ensure compliance with electrical codes, safety standards, and best practices in industrial automation.

Support installation, wiring, and commissioning of automated equipment on the production floor.

Diagnose and resolve equipment issues to minimize downtime and improve system reliability.

Participate in continuous improvement initiatives related to automation, efficiency, and system performance.

Essential Skills

Associate's degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Mechatronics, or related field.

5-7 years of experience in industrial controls engineering, preferably in manufacturing or machine building.

Proficiency in PLC programming and modification (ladder logic, function block, structured text).

Strong understanding of electrical codes (NEC, NFPA 70E, or similar).

Hands-on experience wiring machines and control systems.

Ability to read and create electrical schematics using CAD tools.

Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in a fast-paced production environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Experience with automated sorting systems or material-handling equipment.

Familiarity with VFDs, sensors, and industrial networking (EtherNet/IP, Profibus, etc.).

Knowledge of machine safety standards (ISO, ANSI, or OSHA).

Ability to manage multiple projects and work independently with minimal supervision.

Work Environment

The role is based in a manufacturing plant. The company has aggressive growth and expansion plans with the potential to replicate successful strategies across multiple facilities.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Lebanon, TN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $55.29 - $60.10/hr.
