SALARY RANGE & CATEGORY: Starting Annual Salary $60,282 - $77,553 (depending on experience) on Classified Exempt Salary Schedule

Full-time with benefits; mixed 5-day work week (Monday-Friday) and 4-day work week (Tuesday-Friday)
POSITION SUMMARY:
The District Nurse provides leadership and oversight for the health services program across Re-1 Valley School District. The District Nurse promotes student health, wellness, safety, and attendance by coordinating nursing services, ensuring compliance with state and federal health regulations, supporting medically complex students, and collaborating with staff, families, healthcare providers, and community agencies to remove health-related barriers to learning.
The District Nurse serves as the district's licensed healthcare professional and is responsible for establishing and maintaining a safe, healthy learning environment for all students.
Qualifications
Required
Current unrestricted Colorado Registered Nurse (RN) License
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred
Current CPR/AED Certification
Valid Colorado Driver's License
Ability to travel between district buildings
Preferred
School Nurse Special Services Provider License (or ability to obtain)
Previous school nursing experience
Experience working with pediatric populations
Knowledge of special education, Section 504, and school health regulations
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Student Health Services
Provide comprehensive nursing assessments for students with acute and chronic medical conditions.
Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Healthcare Plans (IHPs).
Develop Emergency Action Plans (EAPs) for students with significant medical needs.
Coordinate nursing care for students with diabetes, seizures, asthma, severe allergies, feeding tubes, and other chronic health conditions.
Provide emergency nursing care and first aid as needed.
Evaluate students returning after illness or injury and determine school participation as appropriate.
Medication Administration
Oversee district medication administration procedures.
Train and delegate medication administration to designated school personnel in accordance with Colorado law and district policy.
Ensure safe storage, documentation, and administration of medications.
Maintain compliance with physician orders and parent authorizations.
Health Screenings & Compliance
Coordinate required vision, hearing, and other health screenings.
Monitor and maintain immunization compliance.
Report communicable diseases in accordance with Colorado Department of Public Health requirements.
Assist with communicable disease response and outbreak management.
Maintain confidential student health records in compliance with FERPA and applicable health regulations.
Special Education & Student Support
Participate as the healthcare professional on IEP and Section 504 teams.
Provide medical information necessary for educational planning.
Assist with evaluations related to health impairments.
Collaborate with therapists, counselors, psychologists, and administrators regarding student health needs.
Staff Training & Consultation
Provide annual training on:
CPR/AED (as applicable)
EpiPen administration
Diastat/Seizure response
Glucagon administration
Medication administration
Bloodborne pathogens
Universal precautions
Concussion awareness
Serve as a health resource for district employees.
District Leadership
Develop and recommend district health procedures and protocols.
Review health policies for compliance with current regulations.
Coordinate health services among all district buildings.
Collaborate with local physicians, hospitals, public health agencies, and emergency responders.
Assist in emergency preparedness planning.
Documentation & Reporting
Maintain accurate student health records.
Complete required state and federal reporting.
Maintain nursing documentation and Medicaid-related records as applicable.
Prepare reports requested by district administration.
Other Duties
Attend professional development and maintain nursing licensure.
Maintain current CPR/AED certification.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Student Services.
