Summary This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. GS-11 Social Worker (Full Performance) A full-performance, independent clinician who carries out all core social work functions with greater autonomy, responsibility, and additional programmatic roles. Key functions include: Screening & Assessment: Independently completes psychosocial assessments, incorporating interdisciplinary/family input to develop collaborative service plans. Treatment & Care Planning: Independently develops and updates service plans; addresses psychosocial problems; sets clinical goals with the Veteran. Referral & Resource Coordination: Maintains/updates complex resource networks; independently facilitates referrals; coordinates VA and community services; reviews provider notes to determine appropriateness of referrals; adheres to Veteran or family preferences within legal limits. Advocacy: Independently supports Veteran/family self-advocacy and empowerment. Crisis Intervention: Independently completes C-SSRS and CSRE; conducts safety planning; provides follow-up for missed appointments in alignment with suicide prevention procedures. Patient Education: Delivers comprehensive education on VA benefits, community resources, and Advance Directives, assisting with document completion when desired. Assignments: Individuals assigned as GS-9 grade level social workers are considered to be at the entry level and are closely supervised, as they are not yet functioning at the independent practice level conferred by independent licensure or certification. Social workers at the GS-9 entry level are typically assigned to program areas that do not require specialized knowledge or experience. Appointment to the GS-11 grade level requires completion of a minimum of one year of post-MSW experience equivalent to the GS-9 grade level in the field of health care or other social work-related settings, (VA or non VA experience) and licensure or certification in a state at the independent practice level. Education: In addition to meeting basic requirements, a doctoral degree in social work from a school of social work may be substituted for the required one year of professional social work experience in a clinical setting. Assignments: Licensed social workers independently provide comprehensive clinical services across multiple care settings. They assess psychosocial needs, risks, and strengths; deliver counseling and crisis interventions; manage cases and coordinate care; develop and implement treatment plans; advocate for Veterans; collaborate with interdisciplinary teams; connect Veterans to resources; and provide consultation, education, and leadership at facility, VISN, and community levels.
