Job Title: Construction Foreman Job Description
This role oversees daily operations on civil construction sites, leading crews and coordinating heavy equipment activities to deliver high-quality work safely, efficiently, and within tight tolerances. The construction foreman manages excavation and pipe installation, ensures compliance with safety regulations, and supports a clean, organized, and productive jobsite.
Responsibilities
Manage and supervise civil construction job sites, including daily oversight of heavy equipment operators such as excavator, loader, and backhoe operators.
Operate heavy equipment to grade and level trench bases and site surfaces to tight tolerances using laser systems or GPS machine control.
Lay, align, and position various pipe materials, including PVC, ductile iron, and concrete, for water mains, sewer lines, and storm drains.
Perform deep excavation, trenching, and shoring while ensuring full compliance with OSHA regulations and applicable safety standards.
Read and interpret blueprints, grade stakes, and schematics to establish proper grade, slope, and alignment for civil projects.
Efficiently operate excavators to dig trenches and set pipe sections, ensuring accurate alignment and proper bedding.
Conduct daily inspections of machinery, including greasing and minor maintenance, to maintain safe and optimal equipment performance.
Aid coworkers in maintaining a clean, organized jobsite at the end of each shift, including proper storage of tools and materials.
Provide constructive suggestions to refine workflow, improve productivity, and enhance overall jobsite efficiency.
Follow and enforce pertinent safety guidelines and procedures, promoting a strong safety culture on the jobsite.
Provide clear direction to crew members and ensure tasks are completed according to project specifications and schedules.
Work extended hours as required to meet project timelines and respond effectively to jobsite demands.
Essential Skills
At least 3-5 years of experience supervising civil construction job sites and overseeing heavy equipment operators, including excavators, loaders, and backhoes.
Proficiency in operating heavy equipment such as excavators, dozers, and other earthmoving machinery.
Ability to grade and level trench bases and site surfaces using laser systems or GPS machine control to maintain tight tolerances.
Experience with deep excavation, trenching, and shoring in compliance with OSHA regulations.
Ability to lay, align, and position PVC, ductile iron, and concrete pipe for water mains, sewer lines, and storm drains.
Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, grade stakes, and schematics.
Exceptional manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination for precise equipment operation and pipe placement.
Sound understanding of relevant safety guidelines and safe work practices on civil jobsites.
Capacity to provide and follow direction effectively in a fast-paced construction environment.
Sharp decision-making skills, particularly under pressure and in changing field conditions.
Ability to perform daily inspections and minor maintenance on machinery, including greasing and basic adjustments.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physically demanding tasks.
Willingness and ability to work extended hours as project needs require.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience in construction management or leading field crews on civil infrastructure projects.
Familiarity with construction processes related to water, sewer, and storm drain systems.
Comfort working with laser systems or GPS-based machine control technology.
Strong communication skills to coordinate with crew members and other site personnel.

Work Environment
This role is based on civil construction jobsites, working outdoors and in varying weather conditions. The position involves regular local travel to different worksites as projects require. You will work around and with heavy equipment such as excavators, loaders, backhoes, and dozers, as well as laser or GPS machine control systems. The environment is physically demanding, requiring lifting up to 50 pounds, extended hours when necessary, and adherence to strict safety standards in active field conditions.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr.
