This Medical Assistant position supports a busy clinic by providing high-quality patient care, performing follow-ups, and managing essential administrative and clinical tasks. You will work closely with patients and clinical staff to ensure accurate documentation, timely communication of lab results, and efficient appointment scheduling while using an electronic medical record system.
Responsibilities
Provide compassionate patient care and support during clinic visits.
Perform follow-up outreach with patients as directed by clinical staff.
Update patient records accurately through data entry in the electronic medical record (EMR) system.
Answer inbound phone calls in a professional and courteous manner, addressing patient questions and routing calls appropriately.
Schedule and manage patient appointments, including follow-up visits.
Order laboratory tests according to provider instructions and clinic protocols.
Relay lab results to patients and providers in a timely and accurate manner, following established procedures.
Support front desk operations, including check-in and check-out as needed.
Assist with clinical support tasks within the scope of a Medical Assistant, as directed by providers or nurses.
Use medical terminology correctly when documenting and communicating patient information.
Verify and update patient information, including insurance details, in the EMR.
Collaborate with healthcare team members to ensure coordinated and efficient patient care.
Maintain confidentiality of patient records and comply with all clinic policies and healthcare regulations.
Deliver excellent customer service to patients, families, and internal staff.
Essential Skills
At least 1 year of experience in medical assisting or a closely related clinical support role.
Medical assisting diploma or certification, or 1+ years of Medical Assistant experience (preferred but not required).
High School Diploma.
Hands-on experience working in a medical or healthcare environment.
Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR), specifically Athena.
Experience with electronic health records and medical record documentation.
Ability to perform appointment scheduling accurately and efficiently.
Knowledge of medical terminology and its use in documentation and communication.
Experience ordering labs and handling related documentation.
Ability to answer and manage a high volume of incoming phone calls in a clinical setting.
Strong patient care skills and a patient-focused mindset.
Customer service skills in a healthcare environment.
Basic Life Support (BLS) knowledge or certification (if required by clinic policy).
Understanding of insurance and basic healthcare administrative processes.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) or similar credential is a plus.
Previous experience in front desk or medical office reception is beneficial.
Experience with clinical support tasks such as assisting providers during patient visits.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills when working with patients and clinical staff.
Ability to multitask in a fast-paced clinic environment while maintaining accuracy.
Attention to detail in data entry and documentation within the EMR.
Demonstrated reliability and professionalism in prior healthcare roles.
Work Environment
This role is fully onsite at a clinic, working Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. You will work in a clinical setting that uses electronic medical record systems, including Athena, and standard medical office equipment. The environment involves regular interaction with patients, providers, and administrative staff, combining both front desk and clinical support responsibilities. The clinic offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental, and vision coverage, a 401(k) plan, and holiday pay for six paid holidays. Upon conversion to a permanent role, team members are eligible for nine paid holidays and 15 days of paid time off (PTO). Performance-based pay raises are available, and employees may receive special PTO tokens, each worth one hour of PTO, which can be used at any time and accumulated without limit. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $20.00/hr.
