Medical Assistant - Cardiology
Job Description
This role functions as a Medical Assistant in a Cardiology Heart and Vascular clinical setting, supporting physicians and clinical staff by preparing and maintaining exam rooms, organizing charts and records, assisting with patient flow, and ensuring the smooth day-to-day operation of the office. The Medical Assistant interacts directly with patients, performs routine clinical tasks, and contributes to a high standard of patient care and service.
Responsibilities
Prepare exam rooms before office hours, ensuring all equipment, supplies, and materials are ready for patient visits.
Organize and maintain patient charts, obtain necessary reports and records, and ensure documentation is accurate and up to date.
Assist with patient flow throughout the clinic to support efficient and timely patient visits.
Interact directly with patients in the clinic setting, providing courteous and professional assistance during their visit.
Obtain and document vital signs, including but not limited to blood pressure, heart rate, temperature, and other measurements as required.
Verify patient medications and update medication lists in the electronic medical record system.
Schedule tests and procedures as ordered by providers, and coordinate related documentation and follow-up.
Use electronic medical records (EMR), including Epic, to enter, update, and retrieve patient information accurately.
Communicate effectively with physicians, patients, families, significant others, and support staff to facilitate coordinated care.
Utilize strong telephone skills to handle patient calls, relay information, and manage messages in a professional manner.
Apply working knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology when performing clinical and administrative tasks.
Support the overall smooth running of the clinical office by assisting with both clinical and administrative duties as needed.
Perform EKGs once in a permanent capacity, following established clinical protocols and documentation standards.
Essential Skills
Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) credential from an approved organization such as the NHA.
Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
Two or more years of experience working as a Medical Assistant.
Hands-on experience with electronic medical record systems, including Epic.
Medical assisting skills in a health care environment, preferably in a clinical specialty such as cardiology.
Strong interactive communication skills with the ability to work effectively with physicians, patients, families, significant others, and support staff.
Excellent interpersonal skills to build rapport and maintain professional relationships in a clinical setting.
Organizational skills to manage charts, schedules, tests, and patient flow efficiently.
Proficient telephone skills for handling patient calls and coordinating communication.
Working knowledge of anatomy and physiology relevant to medical assisting duties.
Fundamental understanding of medical terminology to support accurate documentation and communication.
Ability to learn and perform EKGs in accordance with clinical standards.
Work Environment
This position is based in a Cardiology Heart and Vascular clinical office with a Monday-Friday schedule from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., including a 30-minute unpaid lunch break. The environment is a busy outpatient setting where you work closely with physicians, clinical staff, and patients. You will regularly use electronic medical record systems, including Epic, along with standard medical assisting equipment such as vital sign monitors and EKG machines. The role requires professional attire appropriate for a clinical health care environment and the ability to remain organized and focused in a fast-paced, patient-facing setting.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.00/hr.
