The Clinical Nurse Coordinator is responsible for surgical coordination and scheduling, clinical care coordination, and providing patient and provider support. The role involves optimizing schedules to enhance efficiency and patient access, preparing patients for consultations, and ensuring all necessary information is available for productive discussions. This position serves as a primary contact for patients, guiding them through the surgical process and assisting with follow-up care coordination.
Responsibilities
Coordinate and schedule surgical procedures for HPB patients.
Optimize surgeon clinic and operating schedules to maximize efficiency and patient access.
Collaborate with providers and clinic staff to adjust appointments and surgical timelines as needed.
Confirm surgery dates, times, and pre-operative requirements with patients and families.
Prepare patients for surgical consultations by collecting and reviewing outside medical records, imaging, laboratory results, and other pertinent clinical documentation.
Ensure all necessary information is available prior to appointments, supporting productive surgeon-patient discussions and timely surgical decision-making.
Track upcoming surgical cases and monitor completion of required pre-operative testing, imaging, laboratory work, and medical clearances.
Proactively identify and address barriers that could delay or impact scheduled procedures.
Serve as a primary point of contact for patients throughout the surgical process.
Triage patient questions and concerns, providing guidance within scope and escalating clinical issues to the APP or provider when necessary.
Educate patients regarding surgical preparation, pre-operative instructions, and follow-up expectations.
Assist with follow-up care coordination and ensure continuity of care throughout the surgical journey.
Review patient tracking reports and previously evaluated patients to identify individuals who may now be candidates for surgical intervention.
Maintain and organize patient schedules, records, and surgical tracking systems.
Assist with clinic preparation and workload management to improve operational efficiency.
Support process improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing patient experience and provider productivity.
Essential Skills
Must be a Registered RN.
BLS Certified.
Previous surgery scheduling experience.
Strong organizational and care coordination skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced surgical environment.
Comfortable collaborating directly with surgeons and providers.
Strong communication, problem-solving, and critical thinking abilities.
Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and proactive in identifying opportunities for improvement.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience in surgery scheduling, oncology, gastrointestinal surgery, or specialty clinic coordination preferred.
Familiarity with Epic software.
Previous patient triage experience.
Work Environment
The position is based in a clinic setting with multiple physicians. The work schedule is Monday to Friday, from 7:30 AM to 4 PM, with no nights or weekends. The role involves working at the West County location on Monday and Tuesday, and at another building from Wednesday to Friday. Parking fees apply on Wednesday to Friday, while parking is free on Monday and Tuesday. The position includes 10 paid holidays off work, with the opportunity to access benefits after contracts.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $33.00 - $36.00/hr.
