The Construction Scheduler develops and manages detailed Critical Path Method (CPM) schedules for heavy civil construction projects, including Alternative Delivery and traditional Design-Bid-Build work. This role supports preconstruction and active projects by creating, updating, and analyzing schedules, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams, and ensuring alignment with contract, owner, and regulatory requirements. The Construction Scheduler plays a key role in identifying schedule risks, recommending corrective actions, and providing clear schedule reporting to project stakeholders.
Responsibilities
Develop detailed CPM schedules for Alternative Delivery projects such as Design-Build, Progressive Design-Build, CM/GC, as well as traditional Design-Bid-Build projects.
Support preconstruction and pursuit efforts by creating conceptual, proposal, and baseline schedules that accurately reflect project scope and strategy.
Coordinate scheduling activities with project teams, design partners, subcontractors, and field personnel to ensure alignment and accuracy.
Maintain and update project schedules regularly, identifying risks, variances, and potential delays, and recommend corrective actions to keep projects on track.
Incorporate design revisions, utility coordination, permitting requirements, environmental constraints, and other project changes into schedule updates.
Prepare clear and comprehensive schedule narratives, milestone reports, dashboards, resource plans, and executive summaries for internal and external stakeholders.
Manage and coordinate equipment, staffing, and production schedules across multiple projects to optimize resources and productivity.
Perform Time Impact Analyses (TIA) and schedule evaluations to support change orders, delay analyses, and contract modifications.
Sequence major construction activities, including earthwork and mass grading, rock excavation and embankments, utility installation, bridge construction, and asphalt paving and roadway surfacing.
Develop traffic control and project phasing schedules that align with owner requirements and regulatory standards.
Provide guidance and training to project teams on CPM scheduling practices and effective utilization of Primavera P6.
Ensure all schedules comply with owner requirements, contract specifications, and organizational scheduling standards.
Participate in owner meetings, design coordination sessions, and project planning workshops to present schedules and support collaborative planning.
Support project controls and reporting efforts by integrating schedule data with other project information as needed.
Essential Skills
Ability to work full-time in an office environment with occasional visits to project sites.
Strong understanding of heavy civil construction methods, including earthwork, mass grading, and excavation.
Knowledge of water, sewer, and storm utility installation methods and sequencing.
Understanding of bridge foundations and structures and their integration into overall project schedules.
Experience with asphalt paving and roadway construction sequencing and constraints.
Knowledge of traffic control planning and phasing for roadway and infrastructure projects.
Experience supporting both Alternative Delivery and traditional Design-Bid-Build projects.
Advanced proficiency in Primavera P6, including logic development, resource loading, and critical path analysis.
Knowledge of Department of Transportation (DOT) and Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) standards, milestones, compliance requirements, and incentive/disincentive structures.
Ability to read and interpret civil construction plans, profiles, cross-sections, maintenance of traffic plans, and geotechnical reports.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify schedule risks, impacts, and mitigation strategies.
Strong verbal and written communication skills for presenting schedule information to diverse stakeholders.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple project schedules and priorities simultaneously.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
3-5+ years of CPM scheduling experience in heavy civil construction.

Experience preparing Time Impact Analyses, delay analyses, or claims support documentation is a plus.
Experience with project controls tools, collaborative design platforms, or model-based scheduling tools is a plus.
Work Environment
This role is primarily office-based, with the expectation of working full-time in a professional office environment and making occasional visits to active project sites. The position involves regular use of scheduling and productivity tools such as Primavera P6 and Microsoft Office applications, along with potential use of project controls and collaborative design platforms. The work environment includes frequent collaboration with project managers, engineers, designers, subcontractors, and field personnel, as well as participation in meetings with owners and regulatory stakeholders.
