Eaton's AER MSD Mission System Division division is currently seeking a Specialist Mechanical Engineer in Westminster, MD.
The expected annual salary range for this role is $113000 - $165000 a year. This position is also eligible for a variable incentive program.

What you'll do:
This position is for a Specialist Mechanical Engineer role supporting new product development and existing product sustainment in Eaton's Mission Systems Division (MSD). The engineer will serve as an expert resource for other engineers in the domain of Space Life Support and Space Propulsion. The engineer will create their own strategy, direction, priorities, and will develop constructive solutions aligning to current business needs.
A successful candidate will need knowledge and have prior experience of Aerospace new product introduction methods, high-pressure pneumatic systems and components, an ability to effectively communicate and influence stakeholders, and experience of leading complex engineering project teams.
As a Specialist Mechanical Design Engineer at a cutting-edge composites company you will contribute directly to the design, analysis, test and build of composite pressure vessels and composite structures for our growing Space, military, aircraft, and commercial customers. We are currently looking for individuals with a proven track record of composites design, solid customer skills, and a passion for hands on innovation and problem solving.
Including:
Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and guidance to a team of Mechanical Engineers or a complex project team made up of multiple engineering disciplines.
Work with customers and our internal Business Development team to generate conceptual designs, definitize requirements, and develop cost estimates for new hardware.
Draw on a defined technology or product area of expertise to be called upon as a consultant for complex assignments at the site or divisional level.
Act as Design Review Chair in area of product expertise: review project deliverables to ensure accuracy and alignment with organizational objectives.
Coordinate, design, analyze and test composite pressure vessels and structures developing conceptual designs into mature product solutions.
Establish the criteria for identifying and quantifying risks. And the methods for assessing design trade-offs.
Technical interface with the external customer including ability to determine customer wants and needs and translate them into verifiable engineering requirements.
Present technical information, engineering strategy, tactical objectives, etc. to Eaton leadership.
Attend conferences and trade shows to advance technical skills and market intelligence including ability to determine customer wants and needs and translate them into verifiable engineering requirements.
Develop engineering standards and design guides to support continuous improvement of the relevant engineering domain.
Work to Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) principles including careful management of Critical to Quality requirements through the design lifecycle, rigorous knowledge building of the design space, understanding of the effects of manufacturing variation, and design for manufacturing and assembly to meet product recurring cost targets. Promote the use of DFSS principles at the site or divisional level.
Qualifications:
Required (Basic) Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace or Material Science from an accredited institution.
Minimum of 15 years of system, product design, development, and/or production design problem resolution experience.
Minimum of 7 years product design, development, and/or production design problem resolution experience working with composites.
Must be authorized to work in the United States without corporate sponsorship now or in the future.
This position requires use of information or access to hardware which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in Mechanical, Material Science or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited institution.
Formal training or experience in the design and analysis of composite parts including classical laminated plate theory. mechanics of materials. and Finite Element analysis
15 years of technical leadership in an aerospace organization.
Design for Six Sigma Greenbelt or Blackbelt.

Ability to think and work at the detailed product level and also at a high level (strategically).
Proficiency with SolidWorks 3D CAD
Demonstrated track record of successfully applying several or most of the following engineering principles:
Aerospace new product introduction methods, regulatory standards. regulations. and certifications
DFSS or Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) tools
Failure investigations of technical products or systems
Oversite and comprehension of stress analysis (static. dynamic, fatigue, vibration, acceleration, etc.)
Steady state performance modeling
Thermodynamics
