Job Title: Manufacturing EngineerJob Description
The Manufacturing Engineer develops, costs, proves out, standardizes, and continuously improves CNC machining, computer-aided design (CAD), and inspection processes to support safe, efficient, and repeatable production. This role covers the full scope of manufacturing engineering activities-from estimating and complex machine setup through CAD modeling, inspection validation, and full production release-and provides hands-on technical leadership on the shop floor. The engineer applies their strongest areas of expertise while collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure consistent, high-quality manufacturing, robust design for manufacturability, and effective metrology practices across the organization.
Responsibilities
Develop and refine CNC machining processes to ensure safe, efficient, and repeatable production.
Create, review, and optimize CNC programs using Mastercam and other CAM tools for complex machining operations.
Cost manufacturing processes and support estimating activities to ensure accurate and competitive quotations.
Set up and prove out complex machine configurations and inspection setups, validating readiness for full production release.
Lead and support CAD modeling activities using SolidWorks to enable robust design for manufacturability.
Standardize manufacturing, CAD, and inspection processes to improve consistency and reduce variation across the shop floor.
Provide hands-on technical leadership on the manufacturing floor, supporting operators and technicians during setup and production.
Program and validate coordinate measuring machine (CMM) routines and manage laser tracker setup and operation for inspection.
Interpret engineering drawings and apply GD&T principles to ensure parts meet all dimensional and geometric requirements.
Collaborate with other engineers and cross-functional teams to ensure complete coverage of manufacturing, metrology, and design for manufacturability needs.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives using Lean Manufacturing principles to enhance safety, quality, and productivity.
Troubleshoot process issues, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions to improve reliability and throughput.
Document manufacturing methods, work instructions, and standards to support training and repeatable execution.
Support inspection validation activities to confirm that measurement processes and equipment reliably verify product conformance.
Essential Skills
Strong CNC machining and CAM experience with direct shop floor involvement.
Hands-on experience with CNC programming and process development for complex parts.
Proficiency in Mastercam for CNC programming and toolpath generation.
Proficiency in SolidWorks for CAD modeling and design for manufacturability.
Demonstrated experience proving out complex machine setups and inspection setups prior to production release.
Experience with CMM programming and laser tracker setup and operation for precision inspection.
Ability to interpret engineering drawings, including detailed understanding of GD&T.
Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles and continuous improvement practices.
Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and other engineers to ensure consistent manufacturing and metrology practices.
Strong problem-solving skills and a hands-on approach to supporting the manufacturing floor.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
Experience providing manufacturing floor support and technical guidance to operators and technicians.
Background in process development, including documenting and standardizing methods and procedures.
Exposure to design activities and design for manufacturability considerations within a production environment.
Work Environment
This role operates in a production and shop-floor environment with direct involvement in CNC machining, CAD, and inspection activities. The engineer spends significant time on the manufacturing floor working closely with machine operators, programmers, and inspectors, using tools such as Mastercam, SolidWorks, CMMs, and laser trackers. Work typically involves standard full-time hours, with flexibility as needed to support production schedules, process prove-outs, and continuous improvement initiatives. The environment emphasizes safety, collaboration, and hands-on problem solving, with a focus on Lean Manufacturing and ongoing process optimization. Appropriate attire is expected for a manufacturing setting, including adherence to safety and personal protective equipment requirements.
