Job Title: Industrial Painter / Millwork Finishing Technician
Job Description
This full-time, permanent shop role focuses on millwork finishing and industrial painting within a busy door and millwork production environment. The position combines hands-on wood finishing, prehung door assembly, woodworking, and general warehouse support. You will operate automated finishing equipment, apply water-based coatings, and help maintain a smooth, high-quality production flow while working with a close-knit, family-oriented team.
Responsibilities
Set up, operate, and monitor automated flat line and booth finishing equipment to maintain a steady and efficient production flow.
Apply water-based paints, stains, and sealers to custom millwork, ensuring consistent coverage, correct mil thickness, and adherence to production tickets.
Perform advanced surface preparation, including fine sanding, defect correction, and paint prep to achieve high-quality finishes.
Inspect products as they exit the automated finishing line, promptly identifying and correcting finish flaws, color variations, and texture inconsistencies.
Execute efficient color and material changeovers on finishing equipment to minimize downtime and maintain production schedules.
Perform daily cleaning and routine maintenance on sprayers, finishing lines, and paint booths to prevent equipment downtime and ensure safe operation.
Assemble prehung doors and perform woodworking tasks using power tools such as nail guns, saws, routers, and other mechanical assembly tools.
Support general warehouse operations, including material handling, basic millwork tasks, and assisting with loading and unloading as needed.
Work closely with the Department Lead to prioritize daily production runs and meet deadlines.
Provide guidance and support to entry-level line operators and prep-production support staff, ensuring parts are fed and offloaded correctly.
Follow written directions, processes, and work orders accurately to complete production tasks with minimal supervision.
Maintain a clean, organized work area and strictly adhere to all safety protocols related to equipment operation and chemical handling.
Work independently on standard production runs, escalating complex troubleshooting issues to senior finishing staff or leads when appropriate.
Demonstrate reliability by arriving on time, being ready to work each day, and completing tasks without direct supervision.
Essential Skills
Valid driver's license with a good driving record.
Ability to pass a background check and drug test.
Fluency in English, both written and verbal, to read work orders and communicate clearly with the team.
Ability to lift up to 75 lbs without limitations to handle doors, millwork, and related materials.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to follow directions, adhere to written processes, and accurately read and interpret work orders.
Reliability, punctuality, and readiness to work every day in a production environment.
Ability to complete tasks without direct supervision while maintaining quality and productivity.
2+ years of hands-on experience in millwork finishing, industrial painting, or a similar manufacturing environment.
Proven experience operating automated finishing lines or industrial spray equipment.
Familiarity with the application and behavior of water-based finishes, including paints, stains, and sealers.
Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify subtle inconsistencies in color, sheen, and texture.
Ability to work independently on standard production runs and collaborate effectively with the team when needed.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience with power tools such as nail guns, saws, routers, and other mechanical assembly tools; training is available for the right candidate.
Knowledge of building products and millwork is a plus.
Prior forklift experience is a plus.
Comfort using tape measures and basic carpentry skills for door fabrication and woodworking tasks.
Experience with paint prep, sanding, staining, and sealing in an industrial or shop environment.
Ability to use and maintain spray guns and work safely in a paint booth setting.

Work Environment

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr.
