The Nevada County Treasurer-Tax Collector's office is seeking an experienced, diligent, and forward-thinking Senior Accountant to take a lead role in managing the County's Treasury Division. Examples of Duties
In this role, you will:
Coordinate daily treasury activities, such as cash management, warrant control, banking relationships, cashiering, and internal controls.
Perform and oversee complex investment accounting, including amortization schedules, interest earnings, gain/loss reporting, and portfolio activity.
Analyze investment opportunities, manage pooled funds and liquidity needs, and ensure the County has sufficient cash for operational and strategic purposes.
Complete all daily and monthly banking activities, including running reports, reconciling multiple bank accounts, and researching discrepancies.
Develop, write, and introduce accounting and treasury policies, procedures, and internal controls that support secure and efficient operations.
Design, improve, and document accounting and financial management systems; partner with IT to implement new technology solutions.
Prepare complex accounting, financial, statistical, and narrative reports for Treasury, management, County leadership, departments, and external agencies.
Build strong working relationships with internal departments, special districts, banks, brokers, and regulatory agencies.
Oversee, instruct, guide, and assess accounting and treasury personnel, encouraging precision, collaboration, and ongoing development.
Represent the Treasurer-Tax Collector's Office in internal and external meetings, provide financial expertise, respond to collaborators, and deliver presentations.
Travel between County facilities and banking institutions using a County vehicle, as needed.
Knowledge and Skills Required

Education and Experience Required
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience from an accredited university with major coursework in accounting or a closely related field; and
Three years of progressively responsible professional or journey-level accounting or auditing experience, ideally in governmental accounting, at a level similar to Nevada County's Accountant II; or
Equivalent professional treasury experience that includes cash flow management, investment accounting, or oversight of large-scale financial operations.
Additional Requirements:
Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license within 30 days of hire.
Certified California Municipal Treasurer designation required within two years of hire.
