The City of Minot is accepting applications for the entry level position of

Utility Operator I in the Water Distribution Department, with an

application deadline of Thursday, July 23rd 2026.

All applicants will be required to complete an online Civil Service Exam. The exam link will be sent via Test Genius to the email address provided on the application. Exam deadline: Sunday, July 26^th^ 2026.

Nature of Work

This is manual and some semi-skilled work, assisting in the installation and removal, connecting and disconnecting of water meters, maintenance and repair of water meters, and meter reading. Maintenance and repair of lift station buildings, grounds and equipment. Repair and maintenance of all city-owned underground utilities. Work is performed under the supervision of a Utility Foreman or Lead. Please read the attached job description for complete details.

Minimum Qualifications

Completion of high school and one year experience in general laboring and construction work; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.

Possession or ability to obtain within 6 months a valid North Dakota commercial driver's license and proper endorsements.

Possession of a valid Drivers License

Compensation

Salary is established under the 2026 City of Minot Annual Pay Plan, Grade 50:

$43,593 - $64,713 annually ($20.96 - $31.11/hour)

This is a full-time, FLSA non-exempt position eligible for overtime

Examination must be completed by Sunday, July 26th, 2026

Failure to complete the required examination by the stated deadline will result in disqualification for further consideration.

Veterans Preference

Veterans preference: Applicants who are residents of North Dakota and eligible to claim veterans preference must include Form DD214. Claims for disabled veterans preferences must also include Form DD214 and a letter less than one year old from the Department of Veterans Affairs indicating disability; claims for preference as the eligible spouse of a disabled or deceased veteran must include Form DD214, a marriage certificate, and a letter less than one year old from Dept. of Veterans Affairs indicating disability, or the veterans death certificate.

Failure to provide complete and timely documentation will result in denial of Veterans Preference.
