JOB SUMMARY

Under the direction of the County Assessor, the Assessor Administrative Assistant provides varied clerical and secretarial support in assisting appraisers in maintaining property records, handling appeals, and the day-to-day office tasks. This position prepares reports and correspondence for the public and for the Minnesota Department of Revenue and maintains the electronic filing system. The Assessor Administrative Assistant interacts with the public regarding homestead, various program applications, tax capacity, and general information while maintaining confidentiality when required.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Coordinates and maintains the property assessment record keeping systems within the Assessor's Department.

Scans, annotates, edits, and indexes in various storage applications: building permits, homestead applications, Certificates of Real Estate Value, and any correspondence or other department documents as required. Insures confidentiality, accuracy, applicability, and security of these documents.

Researches and maintains personal property and manufactured home information.

Performs various assessment calculations using an independent calculator or a computer.

Performs receptionist duties in the Assessor's Department for the efficient dissemination of information to the public and other interested parties.

Assists taxpayers with completing various applications, including homesteading.

Uses a variety of computer software applications for recording and retrieval of information.

Processes Electronic Certificates of Real Estate Value in a timely manner.

Performs other comparable duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or GED and 2 years clerical/secretarial/administrative support experience.

Associates Degree / Certificate Program completion and 1 year of clerical/secretarial/administrative support experience.

SCORED EXAMINATION PROCESS

All applications will be screened for minimum qualifications, scored and ranked. The highest ranked candidates meeting minimum qualifications will be recommended for the scored oral examinations (interviews). Final selection for the position will include successful completion of oral interview(s), reference checks, and background in vestigation.
