This position provides unit supervision, technical and administrative management, and guidance to staff in the Special Materials Compliance and Enforcement Unit. This position provides leadership and coordination for compliance & enforcement (C&E) as well as education and outreach for various contaminants of concern and consumer products. The position ensures that relevant program procedures are effectively and efficiently administered in accordance with established technical standards, and that work is completed in an effective and timely manner. This position determines the current and long-range needs and manages staff effectively to meet goals. Additionally, the incumbent is expected to support and assist the Section Manager in meeting the sections and division's goals and objectives. The incumbent is expected to be an active and positive member of the agency's Leadership Team as well as the Enforcement Lateral Team.

Minimum Qualifications
1) One year of supervisory experience in environmental protection/pollution control,
OR
2) Two years of advanced professional experience in environmental protection/pollution control. Examples for internal candidates - (Environmental Specialist 4, Planner Principal, Hydrologist 2, Engineer 2 Graduate, Research Scientist 2, or related classes).
OR
3) Three years of environmental experience performing work equivalent to an Environmental Specialist 3 level or senior level work directing, designing AND developing criteria for permits, enforcement, negotiation, or environmental programs.
OR
4) Equivalent combination of the above
Possess a valid Driver's license (see additional requirements).

Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of relevant federal and state regulatory frameworks and their applicability to compliance and enforcement and environmental projects.
Knowledge of the structure, policies and procedures of local, state, and federal government.
Accomplished project management skills to guide and direct complex compliance and enforcement projects while supporting staff and problem solving laterally and vertically to determine appropriate actions.
Accomplished leadership and management skills to effectively coach, train and lead peers in the use of problem solving and project management.
Ability to plan and lead education and outreach efforts
Communication/writing skills sufficient to clearly and tactfully communicate in a manner appropriate for the intended audience.
Physical Requirements
Requires occasionally lifting and/or carrying such articles as file folders, ledgers, and small equipment. Although a sedentary job is defined as one which involves sitting, a certain amount of walking and standing is often necessary in carrying out job duties.
Additional Requirements
A driver's license is an essential function of this position. This requires possession of an unrestricted Class D Driver's License. The job offer is contingent on confirmation of a valid driver's license AND a satisfactory DLR check.
Requires a Class D driver´s License: a single unit vehicle with a gross vehicle weight of less than 26,000 pounds. This is a basic driver's license. Operators may also tow vehicles/trailers as long as the gross combination weight does not exceed 26,000 pounds.
