Job Title: Sanitation Worker
Job Description
Join a new sanitation team supporting a brand-new GMP food production plant in Nashville. In this role, you help ensure a clean, safe, and compliant facility by performing thorough sanitation of floors, belts, machinery, and production areas, following the 7 Steps of Sanitation every day. You will complete an initial two-week training on a daytime schedule, then move to an overnight shift and support master sanitization of the entire plant.
Responsibilities
Sanitize plant floors, belts, machinery, and other production equipment according to established procedures.
Perform master sanitization of docks, warehouse areas, dry mixers, wet mixers, and other designated zones.
Follow the 7 Steps of Sanitation daily, including soil pick-up, rinsing, wet pick-up, detergent application, post-rinse, inspection, and final sanitizing/disinfecting.
Physically remove soils such as dirt, mineral salts, residues, proteins, lubricants, and gross solids from contact surfaces.
Disassemble machinery as needed in preparation for cleaning and cover sensitive electronics and switches to protect them during sanitation.
Rinse equipment surfaces from top to bottom using warm potable water (below 120°F / 48.9°C) where appropriate, ensuring visible soils are removed.
Handle wet pick-up tasks by shoveling, squeegeeing, and sweeping floor solids into a central area and placing them into proper containers, avoiding discharge into drains.
Apply detergent foam from bottom to top to prevent streaking, ensuring consistent coverage and appropriate foam thickness, and scrub heavily soiled areas.
Perform post-rinse activities, identifying and reworking any areas where soils remain, including hand scrubbing and additional rinsing or detergent application as needed.
Inspect equipment thoroughly to confirm all contact surfaces, especially food contact surfaces, are free of any soiling before sanitizing.
Apply sanitizers or disinfectants as the final step to ensure equipment and surfaces meet food safety and regulatory standards.
Adhere to GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) at all times within a food production environment.
Communicate clearly with team members, supervisors, and production staff to coordinate sanitation activities with production schedules.
Adapt to evolving processes, procedures, and equipment in a start-up environment and support continuous improvement of sanitation practices.
Participate in on-the-job training during the first two weeks on a day schedule to observe and understand production operations.
Work the regular overnight shift (11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.) after training and support voluntary weekend deep cleaning activities as needed.
Use industrial cleaning tools and equipment safely and correctly, following all safety and food safety guidelines.
Maintain accurate adherence to sanitation protocols for both wet and dry food areas, following appropriate procedures to prevent bacterial growth and mold.
Support a highly automated production environment by cleaning around and on automated systems without damaging equipment.
