Summary This position is located at Lebanon VA Medical Center in Lebanon, PA. Responsibilities The incumbent will also function as a Dentist in all aspects of patient care including inpatient/outpatient care. Accepting inpatient and outpatient consults from Primary Care and other Specialty clinic providers. Major duties include, but are not limited to: Clinical Practice: (1) Appropriately documents own interventions and reviews appropriate health team documentation of patient treatment plans and involve the primary care provider when indicated to treat changes in the patient's condition. (2) Recognizes complex situations that impact patient care and intervenes, using sound judgment, professional attitude and appropriate channels. (3) Participates in establishing policies, procedures and guidelines to ensure adequate, comprehensive services. (4) Participates in in-service training programs and maintains competencies. (5) Participates in direct patient care utilizing tele health technologies. (6) Maintains current knowledge of trends in professional issues. (7) Evaluates the need for, and provides education to the patient and or their family concerning the patient's treatment and diagnosis. Quality of Care: (1) Uses professional standards of care and practice to evaluate programs and activities. (2) Develops and leads interdisciplinary teams to improve organizational performance. Recognizes impediments to health care delivery and uses problem-solving/performance improvement approaches to improve outcomes. (3) Participates in performance improvement activities related to the service line quality improvement process. (4) Tracks and trends issues related to care delivery and role implementation. (5) Evaluates need and participates in interdisciplinary ad hoc committees/process action teams for constructive problem solving. (6) Establishes objective and measurable goals that are appropriate for case load size based on patient population and diagnoses. Performance: (1) Develops and implements interdisciplinary standards of practice and care. (2) Conducts self-review of current practice and seek constructive feedback from peers. (3) Facilitates open dialogue among peers, supervisors and staff. (4) Communicates effectively with patients, families/significant others and the health team members. (5) Incumbent is physically able to work 8 hours per day in an outpatient setting. Direct patient care requires standing, sitting and bending on an as needed basis to provide adequate care. Dentist Basic Requirements A degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery or dental medicine resulting from a course of education in dentistry. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are (1) United States and Canadian schools of dentistry listed by the Commission on Dental Accreditation(CODA), in the list published for the year in which the course of study was completed.(2) Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia as qualifying for full and unrestricted licensure provided the licensure requirements include a written examination measuring science achievement and a performance examination measuring clinical competence certification, and must obtain a copy of the ECFMG certificate, if claimed by the applicant. ~AND~ Completed, or you are currently completing, a residency program in general practice or specialty, or comparable experience as a dentist actively involved in treating medically compromised patients. ~AND~ Currently hold, or will hold, a current, full and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Note: Dentists must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure. Staff Requirements Staff Dentist. An individual that demonstrates the ability in the field of general dentistry or a dental specialty who is employed to perform the duties related to various professional activities of patient care and treatment without supervision.
