What We Offer
The County of Ventura offers an attractive compensation and benefits package that includes:
General Salary Increase: A general salary increase of 3.5% effective on December 20, 2026, and 3.5% effective December 19,2027.
Educational Incentive: Completion of an associate degree (2.5%), bachelor's degree (3.5%), OR graduate degree (5%) not required for the position.
Annual Leave/Accruals Redemption: A candidate selected for this position will earn 208 hours per year, increasing to 288 hours after 5 years of service and has the ability to "cash in" or redeem up to 100 hours of Annual Leave per year after taking 80 hours in the preceding 12 months.
Deferred Compensation: 401(k) Shared Savings Plan and/or Section 457 Plan, with up to a 3% match on your 401(k) contributions.
Health Plans: You are afforded an annual flexible credit allowance of up to $26,626 for purchasing medical, dental, and/or vision insurance from a group of authorized plans.
Flexible Spending Accounts: Pre-tax benefit towards eligible medical, dental and vision care expenses.
Pension Plan: Both the County and you contribute to the County's Retirement Plan and to Social Security. If you are eligible, you may establish reciprocity with other public retirement systems such as CalPERS.
Bilingual Incentive: Proficiency levels by exam are $.69 per hour (Level I), $1.00 per hour (Level II), or $1.32 per hour (Level III).
Holidays - 12 paid days per year, which includes a scheduled floating holiday.

Ventura County is a "general law" county, governed by a five-member, elected-by-district Board of Supervisors. The Supervisors appoint a County Executive Officer (CEO) to oversee the County budget, day-to-day operations, and to advise, assist, and act as an agent for the Board of Supervisors in all matters under the Board's jurisdiction. THE POSITION
Under general supervision the Management Assistant performs a wide variety of secretarial and routine administrative functions for Library management based out of Library Administration Office in Ventura.
This Management Assistant will be the receptionist for the Administration Office greeting vendors, accepting deliveries, directing the public and performing a variety of complex secretarial and clerical duties designed to relieve Library management of routine administrative details and solve routine problems without assistance. Incumbents are expected to perform independently which requires knowledge of specialized Library operational procedures.

The Management Assistant - Confidential is a confidential clerical classification covered by the Management Resolution and is eligible for overtime compensation.

Examples Of Duties
Depth and breadth of assignments increase at each level and may include, but are not limited to the following:
Relieves the administrator of routine personnel, budget, timekeeping, and purchasing tasks and other operational details as necessary.
Screens incoming correspondence, arranging items by priority for the administrator's reply, referring matters to other staff as appropriate and preparing correspondence regarding matters not requiring the administrator's personal attention.
Makes appointments and arranges conferences and meetings for the administrator, exercising considerable discretion in commitment of the administrator's time.
Researches, compiles, and organizes information for use by the administrator in the completion of reports, recommendations, and special projects, preparing reports and projects for the administrator's approval upon request.
Serves as liaison between the administrator, staff, and representatives from other departments and agencies, personally transmitting messages, requests and instructions as appropriate.
Sets up and maintains a variety of office files and records, making appropriate recommendations for changes in clerical and office procedures as necessary.
Acts as the administrator's receptionist, screening office and telephone callers, referring inquiries as appropriate and personally assisting those whose business does not require the administrator's personal attention.
Takes and transcribes dictation from shorthand notes or recorded dictation. Performs filing, copying, and related tasks as required.
Performs other related duties as required.
Typical Qualifications
These are the entrance requirements for the examination process and do not guarantee either continuation in the process or placement on an eligible list.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
Considerable secretarial and administrative office experience which has led to the acquisition of the required knowledge and abilities.
The required knowledge and abilities also can be obtained by one (1) to three (3) years of increasingly responsible secretarial or administrative support experience.
NESCESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be willing to work on site in Ventura.
NOTE: Excellent written communication, as evidenced by clear, concise, and well-structured responses in the employment application and the supplemental questionnaire.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Thorough knowledge of: correct English usage, grammar, spelling, vocabulary and punctuation; and, modern office methods and procedures, including business correspondence, filing, and standard office equipment.
Thorough ability to: understand departmental organization, policies, and procedures and the County governmental structure; compose clear and concise correspondence independent of oral or written instructions; establish and maintain clerical procedures and standards; independently perform a variety of administrative assignments; effectively supervise clerical employees; establish and maintain effective public relations with departmental clientele; and, effectively meet the public in situations requiring tact and poise.

WRITTEN EXAMINATION - 100%
An un-proctored, internet-based job-related written examination will be conducted to test applicants' knowledge, skills, and abilities in relation to English Usage & Written Communication, Business Math, Proof Reading, and Filing & Office Practices. Applicants must earn a score of seventy percent (70%) or higher to qualify for placement on the eligible list.
ELIGIBLE LIST
The eligible list established through this recruitment will be used to fill current and future Regular, (Temporary, and Fixed-term), Extra Help and Intermittent vacancies for this classification. There is currently one (1) Regular vacancy within Library Administration.
Applicants successfully completing the examination process may be placed on an eligible list for up to a period of one (1) year.
