2nd Shift Maintenance Mechanic
Job Description
The Maintenance Mechanic will perform mechanical and electrical troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance on production equipment within a food manufacturing facility. This role focuses on working with 480-volt systems, variable frequency drives, motors, and gearboxes to ensure reliable and safe operation of all machinery.
Responsibilities
Troubleshoot and repair 480-volt electrical systems and related equipment.
Diagnose and service variable frequency drives (VFDs), including setup, adjustment, and replacement.
Inspect, remove, and replace gearboxes and motors as needed to maintain equipment performance.
Perform preventive maintenance on production equipment approximately 50% of the time to minimize downtime.
Conduct both mechanical and electrical maintenance on a wide range of machinery in the facility.
Use PLC troubleshooting techniques to identify and resolve equipment faults.
Interpret and work from electrical and mechanical schematics during troubleshooting and repair activities.
Maintain and repair hydraulic and pneumatic systems that support production equipment.
Document maintenance work performed and communicate equipment status to the team and leadership as required.
Follow all safety procedures, including proper use of respirators/SCBA and safe work practices at heights.
Collaborate with other mechanics and production staff to support continuous operation of the facility.
Respond to equipment breakdowns in a timely manner to reduce production interruptions.
Essential Skills
Proven ability to troubleshoot 480-volt, 3-phase electrical systems safely and effectively.
Hands-on experience working with variable frequency drives (VFDs), including troubleshooting and replacement.
Mechanical maintenance experience, including changing gearboxes and motors.
Electrical maintenance skills, including diagnosing and repairing industrial equipment.
Experience performing preventive maintenance on production or industrial machinery.
Ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical schematics.
PLC troubleshooting experience for identifying and resolving equipment issues.
Working knowledge of hydraulics and pneumatics in an industrial environment.
Comfort working at heights, including climbing on structures up to approximately 80 feet.
Ability and willingness to wear a respirator and self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) as required.
Capability to work a second-shift schedule from 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
No formal education or certifications are required for this role.
Previous experience as a maintenance mechanic or maintenance technician in a manufacturing environment is beneficial.
Experience in a food or beverage production facility is an advantage.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Solid understanding of safe work practices when working with electrical systems and at heights.

Work Environment
This role is based in a food manufacturing facility producing bread, with the temperature maintained at approximately 68 degrees year-round for comfort and product quality. The position is on second shift, working Tuesday through Saturday from 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. You will be part of a maintenance team totaling around 13 mechanics across all shifts, working with industrial equipment that uses 480-volt, 3-phase power, PLCs, VFDs, hydraulics, and pneumatics. The role requires working at heights, including climbing on silos up to about 80 feet, and wearing a respirator or SCBA when necessary. The dress code includes smocks, hair nets, and beard nets to meet food safety and sanitation standards.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $27.00 - $32.00/hr.
