A Tier 1 automotive client is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Manager to lead the mechanical engineering team responsible for product design and lifecycle management of its Tier 1 products for North America. The role will support hidden antenna solutions.
This Mechanical Engineering Manager will lead mechanical design activities for the North American VAS product line. The manager will oversee approximately 8 employees onsite and 13 engineers/designers/technicians globally.
The role will be responsible for leading product design, supporting new product development, driving component development, resolving design and manufacturing challenges, supporting launches, and mentoring engineering talent. This person will work closely with electrical engineering, program management, manufacturing engineering, suppliers, customers, and production teams to develop cost-effective, manufacturable, and high-quality automotive products.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead mechanical engineering design activities for automotive antenna products
Manage and mentor a team of engineers, designers, and technicians
Work closely with electrical engineering to create complete electromechanical product designs
Drive component development to ensure dimensional, functional, appearance, and performance requirements are met
Support new product RFQ activity, including design concepts and customer proposal support
Partner with program management to ensure projects stay on schedule and meet design milestones
Support manufacturing sites through manufacturing concept development, production trial builds, ramp-up, and launch
Collaborate with manufacturing, industrial engineering, and production teams to resolve manufacturing issues
Evaluate materials, manufacturing processes, and alternate designs to improve cost and performance
Support proto@type development, validation, testing, and design iterations
Participate in engineering change processes and ensure design updates are accurate and efficient
Build credibility with customers through technical presentations and strong communication

Additional Skills & Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.
Minimum of 10+ years of automotive mechanical/electromechanical product design experience preferred.
8+ years may be considered if the candidate is very strong technically and has leadership capabilities.
Experience leading engineering teams or serving as a technical lead, supervisor, staff engineer, or engineering mentor.
Experience managing multiple projects at one time and driving technical decisions.
Strong understanding of the full product development lifecycle from concept through launch and production support.

Experience with die-cast aluminum is strongly preferred
Strong communication skills required, as this person will collaborate globally with suppliers and with customers
Must be comfortable making time-sensitive technical decisions while balancing risk, cost, timing, and quality
Must have the personality and professionalism to step into a visible leadership role

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $150000.00 - $175000.00/yr.
