This role leads daily field operations for complex healthcare construction projects with a strong focus on radiation shielding systems and highly technical treatment environments. The Construction Superintendent oversees multiple trades, enforces strict safety and infection control protocols, and ensures projects in active hospital settings stay on schedule and meet all regulatory requirements. The position requires deep experience in healthcare construction, strong field supervision skills, and the ability to coordinate closely with project management, hospital staff, and inspectors in fast-paced, high-compliance environments.
Responsibilities
Manage daily field operations for healthcare construction projects, ensuring all work progresses safely, efficiently, and in accordance with plans and specifications.
Oversee and coordinate subcontractors across structural, interior fit-out, mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP), and specialty trades to maintain smooth workflow and quality standards.
Plan, coordinate, and supervise the installation of radiation shielding systems, including lead-lined assemblies, specialty doors, and other components in imaging and treatment environments.
Lead the site safety program and strictly enforce OSHA requirements and hospital-specific safety protocols for all workers and visitors on site.
Implement and monitor infection control protocols required for construction in active and occupied healthcare facilities, minimizing disruption to hospital operations.
Maintain and drive the construction schedule by preparing and managing look-ahead schedules, sequencing work, and proactively resolving potential delays.
Conduct daily site walks, quality inspections, and field observations, documenting progress and issues through detailed daily reports.
Coordinate closely with the Project Manager on requests for information (RFIs), field issues, and constructability concerns to ensure timely resolution.
Support the identification, documentation, and communication of cost impacts and change orders arising from field conditions or scope changes.
Ensure compliance with applicable NYC building codes and healthcare construction best practices throughout all phases of the project.
Maintain strong working relationships with client representatives, hospital staff, inspectors, and other stakeholders to facilitate smooth project execution.
Work effectively in tight, urban, and operational hospital environments, coordinating logistics, access, and deliveries to minimize impact on ongoing clinical operations.
Oversee work in highly technical environments such as MRI rooms, LINAC suites, imaging rooms, and other specialized treatment spaces, ensuring adherence to strict safety and regulatory requirements.
Essential Skills
Minimum of 10+ years of field supervision experience at the Superintendent level.
Strong experience managing healthcare construction projects, including work in active and occupied hospital facilities.
Proven ability to manage multiple trades simultaneously in fast-paced, high-compliance environments.
Demonstrated knowledge of NYC building codes relevant to healthcare and specialized construction.
In-depth understanding of healthcare construction best practices, including infection control and work in clinical environments.
Experience coordinating and overseeing highly technical installations, particularly in imaging and treatment environments.
OSHA 30 certification (required).
Valid DOB License (required).
Background in specialized construction such as radiology, laboratories, pharmaceutical, or life sciences facilities.
Strong command of safety procedures and the ability to lead and enforce a comprehensive site safety program.
Construction supervision expertise across structural, interior fit-out, MEP, and specialty trades.
Ability to work effectively in tight, urban job sites and operational hospital environments.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience with radiation shielding systems, including lead-lined assemblies and specialty doors for oncology, imaging, and radiology environments.
Exposure to design-build construction services integrating architecture, engineering, and physics for complex healthcare facilities.
Familiarity with construction of cancer centers, imaging suites, and specialized treatment spaces requiring strict safety and regulatory compliance.
Experience working on custom, highly technical environments such as MRI rooms, LINAC suites, and advanced imaging rooms.
OSHA 40 certification is a plus.
Experience working with high-spec facilities that require coordination across consulting, design, construction, and installation services.
Strong communication and relationship-building skills with client representatives, hospital staff, inspectors, and project teams.
Proven ability to thrive in environments that demand meticulous attention to detail, documentation, and regulatory adherence.
Work Environment
This is an on-site role based at active healthcare construction projects, often located in tight, urban settings and operational hospital environments. The superintendent works primarily in the field, coordinating day-to-day activities across multiple trades and managing work in and around functioning clinical areas. Projects typically involve high-spec, highly technical spaces such as cancer centers, imaging suites, MRI rooms, LINAC treatment rooms, and other specialized treatment environments that require strict safety, radiation shielding, and regulatory compliance. The work environment demands consistent adherence to OSHA and hospital-specific safety protocols, as well as rigorous infection control measures to protect patients, staff, and visitors. The role involves frequent site walks, inspections, and face-to-face coordination with subcontractors, hospital staff, and inspectors, requiring a professional presence and appropriate jobsite attire suitable for healthcare and construction settings.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $75.00/hr.
