The Role
The Manager, Operational SCADA is responsible for the operational performance, reliability, and continuous improvement of Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) and communications systems across our North American operating fleet.
This role acts as the operational owner for SCADA and communications performance and is responsible for improving system reliability, reducing lost generation associated with communications or telemetry failures, and strengthening operational visibility across utility-scale solar and battery energy storage assets.
Working closely with Operations, Asset Management, Engineering, Construction, Cybersecurity, IT, and external service providers, this role develops operational standards, performance metrics, and strategic initiatives that improve system reliability, operational efficiency, and fleet performance.
What You'll Do
Safety Leadership
Promote and maintain a strong safety culture across operational technology environments.
Ensure work is performed in accordance with company procedures, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
Support operational incident investigations and corrective action implementation.
Fleet Reliability & Generation Performance
Lead initiatives to improve SCADA and communications reliability across the operating fleet.
Identify and resolve recurring telemetry, communications, and control issues impacting plant availability or energy production.
Establish metrics and reporting processes to track lost generation associated with SCADA or communications failures.
Conduct root cause investigations and implement corrective actions following major events.
Analyze fleet performance trends and implement improvements that reduce operational risk and improve efficiency.
SCADA Operations & Performance
Serve as the operational owner of SCADA systems across the North American fleet.
Develop and maintain fleet-wide SCADA standards, operating procedures, and support models.
Monitor system performance and implement reliability improvements.
Support standardization initiatives for SCADA hardware, software, and communications architectures.
Develop lifecycle management strategies for operational SCADA infrastructure.
Communications & Network Infrastructure
Oversee performance of communications systems including fiber, cellular, microwave, VPN, routing, switching, and remote access infrastructure.
Coordinate troubleshooting and restoration during communications outages.
Identify system vulnerabilities and implement mitigation strategies.
Support design reviews and operational acceptance of communications systems for new projects.
Alarm Management & Operational Awareness
Develop and maintain alarm management standards and philosophy across the fleet.
Improve operational visibility through alarm optimization and monitoring processes.
Support development of operator response procedures and documentation.
Operational Technology & Cybersecurity
Partner with Cybersecurity and IT teams to support secure and reliable operational technology environments.
Support implementation of OT cybersecurity standards, policies, and best practices.
Assist with operational technology compliance requirements where applicable.
Vendor & Contractor Management
Manage relationships with SCADA vendors, communications providers, integrators, and service contractors.
Develop scopes of work and support contractor selection processes.
Monitor vendor performance and define service level expectations.
Identify opportunities to reduce external support costs while improving reliability and response times.
Commissioning & Operational Turnover
Represent Operations during SCADA and communications turnover from Construction.
Participate in design reviews, factory acceptance testing, commissioning, and site acceptance activities.
Validate operational readiness before asset turnover.
Identify deficiencies and apply lessons learned to improve future projects.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Partner with Operations, Engineering, Asset Management, Construction, IT, and Cybersecurity teams to improve fleet performance.
Provide subject matter expertise for operational SCADA and communications systems.
Support strategic initiatives related to operational excellence, digitalization, and fleet standardization.
Who We're Looking For
Knowledge & Skills
Strong understanding of SCADA systems within utility-scale energy operations.
Knowledge of industrial networking and communications infrastructure.
Familiarity with RTACs, RTUs, HMIs, telemetry systems, plant control systems, and data historians.
Understanding of operational technology cybersecurity principles and best practices.
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent experience.
Valid driver's license.
Ability to travel as required.
Experience
Minimum 8 years of experience supporting SCADA, communications, controls, or operational technology in the utility, renewable energy, or industrial sectors.
Experience supporting utility-scale solar, battery energy storage, transmission, generation, or utility operations .
Experience managing third-party vendors and service providers .
Experience supporting commissioning and operational turnover of energy projects .
Compensation & Benefits
We offer
· Competitive compensation: $140,000 to $160,000 annually plus a 15% annual bonus.
